“How often have the greatest thoughts and ideas come to light during conversations with the family over the evening dinner?”
The sunlight is wonderfully bright. The sky is a dark blue. It is warmer than it has been so it feels warm to me. When I helped Gracie into the yard, I stayed outside for a bit basking in the sun. She ran around the yard the way she used to when she was younger then bounded up the stairs into the house. She deserved her treat!
When I went to bed last night, it was close to 2 AM. I was watching television, going through those pesky catalogs and checking out recipes on Pinterest. I woke up this morning at 10:45. My mother would have called that the sleep of the dead.
I never used to need lists. My memory was enough. Now I need list after list. Alexa keeps my grocery list and stickies hold the rest. There is a great deal of satisfaction in crossing off completed tasks despite how mundane some of them are. I have to sweep the kitchen today. That’s an easy one to complete. One down!
Despite the season or maybe because of it, a few movies on the deck films have already arrived. Most are 50’s black and white B movies with aliens or gigantic creatures or both; also, I have ordered a few of my favorites like Gunga Din and Rear Window. Spring needs to step up so summer won’t seem so far away.
If I were to choose a favorite day of the week, I’d choose Sunday. I wasn’t keen on going to mass when I was young so I consider that the only blight on the day. Most Sundays when I was a kid were quiet. I’d read the Sunday funnies. After the Sunday matinee movies started on TV, we’d watch those in the afternoon. I remember watching Lassie, Come Home. We were all at Sunday dinner in those days, jammed into the small kitchen. On the cold days, the windows there got steamy. I remember my mother used Melmac plates and bowls. For some strange reason, I have a visual memory of a bowl heaped with mashed potatoes. Sunday night meant earlier to bed because of school, but I never really complained. I was usually tired.
Even now, Sunday is different than the rest of the week. I have two papers to read, and I like to take my time. Sometimes I make eggs, bacon, and toast for breakfast. I usually have dinner though I often buy it rather than make it. More than not I have mashed potatoes.
I figure more than any other day, Sunday holds the most family memories.

The sun is finally breaking through the clouds. All morning we had waves of lines of thunderstorms moving North East. Luckily, we didn’t get hail or tornados just rain and thunder here.
Memory is the second thing to go when you get older. I don’t have trouble remembering things but I do have trouble with remembering names. I can’t tell you how many times a week while conversing with my colleagues I try to remember the name of a former colleague and the words, ‘what’s his name’, comes out of my mouth.
There are many brand names that I remember but don’t think about until someone mentions the name such as Melmac dishes. They must have been very popular in the 1950s for their durability verses china or ceramic.
In our house Sunday evenings we went out for dinner. It was usually Chinese or Italian. When I moved to NYC to live with my aunt and uncle we either went out or ordered in Chinese or deli. I remember my cousin bringing a whole rye bread and sliced corned beef, pastrami and tongue along with both potato salad and cole slaw. Unfortunately, the kosher or kosher style deli is rapidly disappearing everywhere including NYC. We are lucky to have a kosher style deli in my neighborhood. near the Jewish Community Center, which is owned by a Vietnamese refugee who bought the business in the 1980s from the original owner and learned how to bake wonderful bagels.

Bob,
I’m glad our rain has moved on as it fell day after day. It was great to see the sun.
I don’t forget names, but I do forget things, the whatchamacallits. The names usually come back to me long after I needed them.
I think every family with kids had Melmac dishes. They lasted forever. My mother had some Christmas plates, but she was the only one who handled them.
Going out to eat was rare with us, too expensive with 4 kids, but Sunday dinners always had a roast. Roast beef was my favorite.
My dad always bought cold cuts at the Italian deli, and now I also buy Italian: capicola, salami, mortadella and salami. They with some cheese make a great sandwich on a roll.

And to the Chapel we went for Mass. I like the Mass, our congregation, a time for reflection and Father Mike. It’s a blessing
Mrs MDH headed out and I treated my afternoon to a soccer game, the biography of Harold MacMillan and Bob. I have ignored Triplicate and I have no idea at what price I would buy it as a completist …$10 ? Meanwhile I have made it to disc 17 of the 1966 tour to be confronted by a CBS stereo recording of the 25 year old Dylan in Sheffield. Stunning in both sound and content….BOB !
Rumors are starting to rev up about a 50th Anniversary Reissue of Sgt Pepper on June 1st. The Facebook page of the Beatles is giving hints…I wondered if there was ever an album so significant in the history of modern music ? Not saying it was the best ever but clearly it was a watershed that changed the face of music (cue im6 Pet Sounds rant)

My Dear Hedley,
Sunday is a perfect day for customs starting with Mass in the morning.
My father would have said Sunday in the winter is for football.
I am impressed that you have gotten so far on the Dylan. I hadn’t heard of the CBS recording so now I will have to go and find it.
Sgt. Pepper was the most amazing album to me. The songs were not the usual Beatles. I played my album until it had to be replaced.

Kat, 9 Sheffield 1966 songs are on sugarmegs
http://tela.sugarmegs.org/alpha/b.html
Look for “BobDylan1966-05VariousLiveUK”
or “BobDylan1966GenuineLiveCD5and6ANightlyRitual”
The reworked CD sound might be better but this is for free and it says “3-track master tape, easily the finest quality of circulating acoustic shows”. I haven’t listened yet.
Thanks for the hint, Hedley!
