“Another one of them new worlds. No beer, no women, no pool parlors, nothin’. Nothin’ to do but throw rocks at tin cans, and we gotta bring our own tin cans.”
Where did all the snow go? Two days ago it covered everything. Then it rained. Now, only a small pile or two left by the plows exists on corners. My yard is completely clear. The steps are safe again.
We’re in the middle of a January thaw. It was over 50˚ yesterday and will be even warmer today. The wind was fiercely blowing earlier this morning. I could hear the chimes singing from the trees in the backyard. The wind has since become a breeze.
Maddie, Gracie and I are headed to the vet’s. Both of them need their nails clipped. Gracie slid on the stairs this morning, but I was there to grab her before she fell. I think it was because of the nails on her back feet. Maddie hates it when I check her nails. She pulls her paws right out of my hand. If she’d let me, I could spare her the anguish of a car ride and a nail clipping, but she won’t have it.
Yesterday I was in B-movie heaven. TCM turned me into a couch potato. It intermingled good science fiction with bad to keep me interested. I watched Forbidden Planet one of the good ones, maybe even a great one. After that came another good one, The Thing From Another World. The final one meant to keep me on the couch was 2001: A Space Odyssey. I didn’t move. Figuring I was caught, TCM then rolled out the other movies. First up was Satellite in the Sky. It was made in 1956, the same year as Forbidden Planet. That I would never have guessed. I had to chuckle when the first orbital vehicle is left unguarded so a newspaper woman can sneak in and hide in a cabinet on the spaceship. She is discovered after the launch. Where did her pocketbook go? How did she find a flight suit her size? Where did those flat shoes come from and how about that classy scarf around her neck? Next was Countdown starring such luminaries as Robert Duvall and James Caan. Ted Knight is also part of the cast. The movie pitted the US against the USSR in the space race, sound familiar? Last was my favorite, The Green Slime. It turns men into monsters. That was fine with me as I didn’t know a single person in the cast. Let them be monsters.
Nothing got accomplished yesterday. I didn’t even get dressed. I had cereal for lunch, Frosted Flakes, and cheese and crackers for dinner. Also, over the course of the day, I ate one sleeve of Girl Scout Thin Mint Cookies. I’m not proud of it, but I did leave the second sleeve alone. I want credit for that!

I really wasn’t planning to go to Russia for the World Cup, but if I was, I guess I don’t want the Presidential Suite at the Ritz Carlton. I understand that the Twittinator doesn’t like CNN so I will be tuning in to that channel as usual for news that matters
Marine Le Pen was spotted this morning enjoying a coffee at Trump Tower – I am sure she was just doing her tourist thing and not trying to pollute the Twittinator with her National Front hatred.
Today our showers are icy and not golden. My mood is very somber.

My Dear Hedley,
Perhaps she was hoping to be recognized and invited to meet with the Twittinator. I’m thinking a new cabinet post: Secretary of a Foreign Land.
I couldn’t believe what happened. Pointing and talking “crap”! That was an embarrassment.
I am far more frightened today than I was before the news conference yesterday. Believe me!!!

Kat – by any measure the last 48 hours have been a disaster. Or maybe its a reality check for what we have on our hands.

MDH,
Maybe we all had a shred of hope that the Trump we saw campaigning would soften, but we have been robbed of hope. It is worse than during the campaign now that he is president-elect.

The storm wasn’t as bad as predicted but still bad enough, lots of snow fell all day but most of it melted, exept on the roads, no one scraped it off so this morning it was way to slippery onthe roads to drive in any normal speed 🙂
The wind is still blowing rather hard but it will calm down until tomorrow they say and then the cold weather starts. I don’t mind because noi snow is predicted and if the ground freeze lots of tics will too 🙂
I’ve never heard of The Green Slime, sounds as a movie in my taste 🙂 I think we have TCM over here too, perhaps I should check if they showthe same movies here and perhaps try to et that channel. We don’t have Syfy but people are asking for it so perhaps 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
You were lucky the snow didn’t stick. We had plenty of it over the weekend. I wish it hadn’t stuck!!
We will have warm days for the next couple then it will get cold again. It is nice to feel warm when I go outside instead of freezing.
I do think they show scifi all day every now and then. I just forget to look. You would love this movie-it is so bad!!
Enjoy your evening!

Thanks for sending your snow 🙂
We’ll expect it tonight. Up to 12 inches in our region plus strong winds is really generous and we won’t be able to deal with it but I will enjoy it anyway. After all I asked for snow 😉
Back to KTCC on Monday, 3-day chorus weekend in a nearby hilly region from tomorrow on (if public transport works), a nice place to sing and party and enjoy the snow. Shall I try to send your snow back next week?
Btw, following the news… Can you US folks please vote for another president pretty soon or get the old one back? This isn’t funny anymore. I should probably switch to B-movie monster fiction too. When I come to think of it, green slime doesn’t sound bad 😉

Birgit – I am both disgusted and somber over this. We said goodbye to a good man and his family. While everyone may not agree with his policies President Obama took us out of the worst depression since the 30s and had nothing but the best interests of the country at heart. He cared about the ordinary person and it showed.
Now we have a F***ing clown, his vile opinions and his bullying of The Fourth Estate. He is willing to engage in a battle of words with an actress who dared to speak her opinion but reduces his arguments to a statement that she is over rated. Over rated ? Trump is nothing but a reality TV personality who doesnt even merit rating.

Ditto, MDH!!!

Birgit,
It was my pleasure. I wondered where it all went. 12 inches is just about right for the two storms we had. The winds are an extra gift!
No thanks! You can keep the snow. The cold weather will be back this weekend, but I don’t know if there will also be any snow in the forecast.
I so wish we could have a do-over for the election. I have the sense that many who voted for you know who are already sorry they did. I’m thinking the green slime has more going for it than the crazed man.

It’s a good thing that no one in the a Republican Party believes in Global warming. Unfortunately, no one has told the atmosphere. 🙂 Today the temperature here topped out again in the upper 70s. Occasionally, I have seen a warm day in December, but January and February are our coolest months.
When you look at the Trump cabinet they remind me of the gang that couldn’t shoot straight. An oil company CEO for Secretary of State, an African American brain surgeon for HUD, and an old fashioned Southern bigot for Attorney General. Sessions once said that they couldn’t execute inmates fast enough in Alabama. Oh, I almost forgot a reality show President elect.
The cold front is on it’s way with a cool down by morning with rain.

Bob,
We are also above average temperatures for January. It has been this week which put us over the top.It is still fairly warm right now.
I can’t begin to accept what is happening now in Washington. Dismantling ACA without something in its place is a travesty to the 20 million people for whom it is the only insurance available. They, the ones who voted for Trump, are due for a rude awakening. This country is changing and not for the better.
