I love this band so, so much. Great pop songs by a great pop band. Adam Schlesinger rules.

im6,
I don’t know them well, but I really liked this song. I’m thinking I’ll probably like more of their music if I’m going to hear songs like this one.

Thinking of Adam Schlesinger (he’s written for just about everything and has won an Emmy and a Grammy and has been Tony, Oscar and Golden Globe nominated — check out his Wikipedia page), got me to thinking about a soundtrack he did for the film Tom Hanks wrote, directed and starred in, “That Thing You Do.” It was pretty much overlooked when it came out and has remained (to me at least) inexplicably underappreciated for the 20 years since its release in 1996. So this is both a music AND a movie recommendation (the film is perfection, getting the excitement of mid-60s music just right). Here’s one of the versions of the title cut from the soundtrack. I dare you not to snap your fingers or clap your hands or DANCE or all three at once. And by all means, watch the movie!

im6,
Parts of this song sounded familiar to me, but I don’t remember where I heard it.
I’ll put this film on the I promise to watch it list. You don’t steer me wrong!

I am just getting around to reading your New Year’s Day entry, so this is off topic. I wanted to say it anyway: Thank you for going back to Ghana this past year and, even more, writing so the rest of us could travel with you. Your reporting was among the best thing I read all year. Thank you and thank you.

Jim,
You made my day with this comment. Thanks so much for enjoying my travelog.
Writing about Ghana comes so very easily for me. Since I stepped off the plane for the first time, Ghana has had a place in my heart. All the colors, the sounds and the smells are a part of me. When I visit, it is like going home.
