All these are excellent. My favorite is the Charlie Louvin but following on his heels is Merle Travis. I did like the Cash but not as much as the other two.
I have only heard Louvin with his brother before this song. I didn’t realize how fine a voice he has.
The description by Merle of mining life and black death gives the song even more sadness, but men needed to work and the mine were there.
