minicapt,
So many reminded me of the Cleavers. They had such wonderful smiles while they shopped or carried grocery bags. I don’t think I was ever as happy when I rolled my cart from aisle to aisle.

June Cleaver may have shopped in high heals, hats and suites but she also vacuumed the house in pearls. My mother did the house work in a smock thing she called a house dress. However, if my mother went to a luncheon or went down town she wore heels, nylons, gloves and a hat. As soon as she got home she couldn’t wait to take off her girdle. Do they still even sell girdles? They used to call the girdle department in stores, ladies foundations which seemed funny to me when I was a kid. 🙂

Bob,
My grandmothers always wore house dresses. My mother usually wore pants when she cleaned. She was the secretary of the mother’s group at my high school. To the meetings she always dressed to the nines and always wore a hat. She wore a fur stole a few times as well.
