     minicapt,
     I remember many of the stores listed in the article. My favorite was Bailey’s where we could buy the best hot fudge sundaes. The ice cream was served in a silver metal sundae dish. The fudge and the marshmallow dripped from the dish to a plate below. The first thing was to eat the fudge and marshmallow on the plate. I still miss Bailey’s.

     I also remember many of the stores listed including Stearn’s, Bonwit Teller and, of course, F.A.O. Schwartz.

     In my town was a Gilchrist’s. We shopped there all the time. It was painful when it closed.
