James Beard, ‘Beard on Food’ (1974) quote

This is what the right wing wants America to become again. White bread and very WASP. Too bad it only exists as a memory if it ever existed at all.

Bob,
I saw this as a middle-class family from the 50’s. It could have been the back yard of a couple of my friends.

Of course you did. It’s like a Norman Rockwell painting of middle class America 1955. The only missing price is the four door 55 Chevy Belaire parked car n the driveway. 🙂

I actually knew families like this one. They didn’t have quite as much backyard but they pretty much looked the same.

Gnu,
The music provides the perfect soundtrack for this. Everything is so lovely. The flowers are beautiful. Great animals shots.
Thank you for a wonderful video!

Gnu,
It is awful that Richard Johnston saw what was happening but just couldn’t get out in time.
Amazing that it was one of the largest landslides in history.

Gnu,
I remember when this happened. The smoke covered everything. There were acres of burned trees.

Gnu,
This video is extraordinary. I can’t believe this guy survives this.

Gnu,
This was great fun to watch. Those were massive creatures who gave me a chuckle.

minicapt,
The series from which my picture came was wonderful. I was thinking how long ago it was, but when I looked at the dates. I was 7 or 8 depending on the picture. I decided it wasn’t really so long ago!
The drive-ins were great. We used to have Adventure Carhop on Route 1. We’d drive by there on the way home from my grandparents in East Boston. I always wanted to stop, but we never did.
All those buildings in the desert including the beginnings of Palm Springs will soon decimated rivers!
