I’ll take this over “Hamilton” any day of the week. Wonder which show/songs people will still be listening to in 50 years?

You’ll not get an argument from me. I totally agree. I don’t know a single song from the most recent musicals.

That’s too bad. I think Hamilton is filled with earworms that sneak into my daily life.

It is not only Hamilton. For some reason I just don’t know any of the recent musicals. I do watch and love the Tonys each year, especially good this year, but I just don’t know the songs.

An ear worm-just what I need!!

  2. For me Jerry Orbach will always be El Gallo in “The Fantasticks.”

I did not know he was in “The Fantastics,” though I should have figured it out as I have heard him sing Try to Remember. I knew he had starred in many musicals on Broadway and even won a Tony.

When he died, the lights on Broadway were dimmed, quite a tribute.

      • Jerry Orbach originated the role of El Gallo (or at least he was the actor on the “Original Off-Broadway Cast album” I used to listen to with some regularity as a youth). While all my friends were listening to rock and roll and debating The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones I was listening to Broadway cast albums. I did eventually move onto folk and rock and jazz and other more counter culture type of stuff (I saw the production of “Hair” in Los Angeles that was produced by Tommy Smothers). But I still enjoy Broadway show music, though I have not followed it much “post-Sondheim,” though I still try to keep up with what is going on. I guess I am more of a “Wild Strawberries/A Little Night Music” sort of person.
