    Federico Fellini quote

The first one was sad yet it was also happy. A Ghanaian friend is a great gift. They are warm people, always happy to help. I loved the way Patrick introduced the culture of Ghana and the expectations Ghanaians have for white people. My friends had no water and hod to go to the town water every day. Bill, my friend, always did it himself. Not so long ago I asked him why he didn’t pay small boys to fetch water. He said he never thought of it.

The second article is definitely Bolga and the market. I usually went to town on market day hoping for something unexpected. I had my tomato lady and she once gave me a watermelon. In those days that was a remarkable find. Oranges, pineapples, mangoes and bananas were the fruit though later papaya would ripen. Only tomatoes and onions were the common vegetables. When I was last there, I was amazed at what could be bought in the market.

Bolga has grown and the market is now huge. I knew my market and the best places to shop. I explored the new market (which is what they call it in Bolga) and bought bell peppers and a few other vegetables I hadn’t ever seen before in Ghana. Bolga is in the poorest part of the country. It has no cash crops and money is difficult to earn. I always have someone wash my clothes before I leave. I love getting home with all clean clothes and I know I overpay to have them cleaned but I’m okay with that.

I am very much looking forward to my next trip. Thank you so much for the preview!
