“They talked in the shorthand of old friends and shared memories.”
Where have I been? I’ve been right here at my computer tearing out my hair and cursing. I upgraded my Mac to El Capitan, the newest operating system. Everything went just fine until this morning when I found my computer running in a gentle lope across cyberspace. I checked and the computer had jumped to the xfinitywifi so I clicked MissKat, my wifi. It wouldn’t connect so I jumped right back on xfinity to do some sleuthing. It seems that El Capitan and Linksys haven’t yet to meet each other so my MAC wouldn’t recognize my wifi. I went hunting to find a solution and didn’t find one. I then tried to connect with the Linksys set-up, but it was taking so long I had time to go downstairs and put my laundry in to wash. It never did connect. I’m now thinking I’ll go back to Yosemite where my Linksys was quite happy and comfortable and felt right at home.
Last night was the dinner, the last reunion event. It was wonderful. I loved it when the cheese, dip and all else hand food lady told me she expected the elderly when she heard it was a 50th reunion. She told me we didn’t look old at all. I’m thinking it was a compliment but maybe it was in comparison to her mental images of what we should look like. The food was delicious and the venue was perfect. It is an old bank, the same one where my parents had had their mortgage. It has been renovated into the Yarmouth Social Center which hosts a variety of events like music, art shows and one I loved, costumes from movies. More people were there last night than at the cocktail party so I got to see more of my classmates. One, whose brother was also in our class, connected with him in FaceTime. He is at the Mayo Clinic. She went from table to table so we could all say hello.
The evening ended early, but every minute of it was filled to the brim with remembered friendships and memories. I think that is best part of any reunion.

Sorry to hear about your upgrade problems. I’m always leary of upgrading to the latest version of the OS because the benefits for an old computer are minuscule. I basically use my iMac to store stuff and I can do almost everything on my iPad.
My 2010 iMac is running slower than molasses and the Mac community’s consensus at apple.com is that my internal HD is slowly dying. Luckily, I have everything backed up to an external drive FireWire drive. Unfortunately, a new iMac would present its own issues since FireWire ports are not supported on new iMacs. Technology moves on regardless how it affects those of us who don’t buy the newest stuff annually. A trip to the Apple Store and a credit card will solve the problem. It’s not a question of if a HD will fail but when it will fail. This one lasted five years, I should consider myself lucky.
Glad to hear that your reunion went well and you had a good time.

Bob,
The problem is actually solved. I wrote my friend who is a MAC expert and he gave me a way to get the Linksys to work with El Capitan. I’m very happy, and my cable is running at breakneck speed.
I keep my iPad upstairs so when I’m in bed I can read, go surfing or play some games. It is also my travel companion.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this MAC lasts a while longer, a couple of years away. Though I have the money for a new one, that is my Ghana trip money.
Thanks on the reunion. I didn’t know what to expect. I was quite pleased by the events and my classmates.

The Cowboys and the Pats game will be starting soon. I’m looking for an upset which will take a miracle. Since the weather is nice maybe Jerry Jones will open up the roof in AT&T Stadium so that God can watch his team play. 🙂

Bob,
I just watched the kickoff.
The Cowboys used to be God’s team, but it doesn’t seem to be true anymore.
It will take a miracle but they do happen.

Since the roof is open anything can happen:-)

Your reunion sounds a LOT classier than mine. Cocktail party? Finger food? Try a catered barbecue spread with brisket, potato salad and beans. At the local American Legion hall (complete with very bright fluorescent lights to show off every wrinkle and flaw) with a dirt parking lot. Dress ranged from sport coat/tie to shorts/Aloha shirt/flip flops (no, that wasn’t me). Yee-haw!

im6,
That spread of finger foods was beautiful. There were all kinds of cheeses, deli type meats, dips, breads and crackers. Dinner too was excellent. I got wonderful butternut squash, baby carrots, rice, roast beef and a small piece of fish. They poured citrus sauce on the fish. Most people were well dressed, sort of business casual, though there were a lot of guys wearing ties. I even added knee highs!
At the cocktail party we had salad at our tables then lined up for cheese, fruits and hot appetizers.
Saturday morning was coffee and pastry then a tour of the high school.
The Cultural Center was perfect. The tables had real flowers as centerpieces. They were filled with fall colors.
It was a really well done weekend.
Sorry yours wasn’t as classy!

Apparently there was a big kerfuffle among the planning committee whether to include cobbler with our meal. The dessert devotees won out, so we had a lovely plastic container of peach or blackberry cobbler to balance next to the slice of white bread on our paper plates. I guess I shouldn’t complain. I didn’t see any open-carry weapons. My fellow celebrants must have decided the building’s metal siding was protection enough should anyone be planning to stage a heist to remove the crepe streamers and plastic tablecloths from the folding tables. Sorry you missed it.

im6,
We had a cake with Class of 1965 written on top of the vanilla icing.
I’m laughing at your description. Ours was totally elegant in comparison. We even had real tablecloths.
Did I mention the waiters roaming through the crowd with crab cakes, pineapple wrapped with prosciutto then broiled and ravioli?
