“Walking through puddles is my favorite metaphor for life.”
The thunder shook my house, and I can still hear rumbles in the distance. The rain is heavy. There are no individual drops, no pitter-patter on the windows. It is a pounding rain, a raining cats and dogs sort of rain. I hope it stays this way the whole day. The summer was dry so every bit of rain is welcomed.
I never had rain boots, only snow boots. My shoes always got wet and most times my socks did too. I always thought it was funny when my socks left wet footprints on the floor. My mother didn’t see the humor. I never had an umbrella either, but I didn’t care. Carrying one in case of rain seemed too big a burden. I already had my lunch box and my school bag. Besides, only the prissy girls seemed to have umbrellas.
I hated having to stay inside during recess on rainy days. That we were allowed to talk and walk around just wasn’t enough. After sitting all morning, we really needed to be able to be outside to play a while, to jump rope or chase each other.
The second half of rainy days were dreadful. I remember clock watching and daydreaming and losing track of the lesson. When that final bell rang, I grabbed my stuff and happily ran outside into the rain.
I saw my first bus yesterday so the season has begun. but I was so taken at the sight of that first bus, I forget to take note of where it was from. Now my life list won’t be complete.
Well, it has stopped raining. The weatherman did say intermittent showers, and he was right. The day got brighter for a bit but it is getting dark again. It will rain soon. I hope this shower stays around a bit longer.

We could use a little rain here in Oklahoma and Texas. Yesterday we visited the National Cowboy and Western Heritage museum which was very nice. Today we are eating lunch in Bricktown which is an entertainment area near the Oklahoma River and the minor league ball park which is built in old ballpark style. We visited Mickey Mantel plaza. The Mic was from Oklahoma. We are headed to the Memorial to the victims of the Government center here in 1995. All the Muslim haters should be reminded that the perpetrator, Timmothy McVehy was a Midwestern terrorist.

Bob,
I wish I could sen rain to the parked western states, but I couldn’t even get it here. Today is a welcomed rain, and other than a short stop, it has been raining all day.
It sounds as if you had a great day. I love to do that when I’m visiting somewhere. When I was in Cleveland, I even went out to the Football Hall of Fame. I. of course, did the Rock and Roll Museum.

I think the Football Hall of Fame is in Canton Ohio. Cleveland has made a real economic comeback. It was called the mistake on the lake back in the 80s. Well at least they got Lebron James back. 🙂

Bob,
It is in Canton, but I drove from Cleveland to see it because I doubted I’d be in the area again. What amazed me about Cleveland as it doesn’t have neighborhoods.

Which bus season? Are still tourists coming?
No rain today, I should have done garden work. Maybe tomorrow.

Birgit,
Bus season is after Labor Day. Weekenders still come but during the week bus tours take over the roads.

Hi Kat,
I did have rain boots as a kid. The floppy galoshes kind with the metal buckles which we rarely did up all the way. I also had a pink raincoat with a matching pink sou’wester hat. I was stylin. I was 5. What did I know? 🙂
I don’t remember having an umbrella. Those were for my adult years when I didn’t want to have a raincoat. My favorite umbrella is a hand painted one from the early 90’s. It has jack russell terriers doing various jack russell terrier things all over it. It’s broken but I will not toss it. I can almost see how to fix it but haven’t quite got there yet. I need an umbrella mender. There’s one somewhere in Vancouver, I believe.
The day started out cool and humid. It piddled some rain for a bit before stopping again to think about it. Somewhere around 11AM I heard the steady pound of rain on the AC unit. It didn’t last long. It piddled rain off and on the rest of the day until the moment when I was exiting the grocery store when it decided to pour buckets. It stopped right after I finished bringing the dogs and the groceries in from the car. Of course.
Enjoy the evening.

Hi Caryn,
You were definitely stylin. My dad has those same galoshes with the buckles but inly used them for the snow. He had those slip on rubbers for when it rained.
i was given a small, holdup umbrella as a gift when I left for Ghana. During the first week there, I left it somewhere and it disappeared. That was of little matter as no one used umbrellas excepts chiefs in the sun.
It has been raining just about the whole day, loud enough to be heard sort of rain. It is humid so I’ll probably turn my bedroom AC on.
I should have gone to do an errand, but I figured it can wait until tomorrow.
Have a great morning!
