“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time.”

Sorry for today’s late start but it was one of those mirror under the nose mornings. I slept until 11, but as my mother always said, I must have needed it.

It is another beautiful day with lots of sun and no humidity. I have no plans except for doing a few house things like water plants, fold laundry and oil my old desk. It is an antique children’s desk and needs periodic oiling as it gets quite dry. With no humidity, it’s a great oil the desk day.

My neighbors are on their deck. I can hear them talking. I can also smell their dinner cooking on the grill. I think today is probably universal cook on the grill Sunday. Both my sisters also mentioned a barbecue. Some meat, fresh corn and a salad is the perfect menu. The local corn is now in the farm markets. It is so sweet you’d almost want it for dessert. Adding homegrown tomatoes raises the salad to culinary heights. The meat is secondary; anything will do. I’m partial to cheeseburgers but won’t turn my nose up at ribs or the lowly hot dog. I best stop now. I’m making myself hungry!

The summer has passed quickly. We might have one or two movie Saturdays left before it gets too cold. The last one has to be a blockbuster, but I haven’t yet decided what it will be, maybe The Adventures of Robin Hood or North by Northwest. I do have a couple I can’t wait to show as they are both so very bad, The Terror of Tiny Town (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pehsws6QYEo) and Chopper Chicks in Zombietown. That last one doesn’t even rate as a B movie.

It has been eleven years of being retired, but I still have a lingering distaste for Labor Day. It used to mean back to work and it was the symbolic end of summer. It wasn’t a day to celebrate. It was a day to mourn.

Too bad I don’t have time to watch all the midgets 🙂 🙂 I did however watch the traler for Chopper Chicks 🙂 I think I would like both of them 🙂 🙂

A bit too chilly here today and the sun they had promised in the predictions showed very little of itself. The temperature is dropping so we might actually get frost tonight as we usually do around this time. It all depends on if the night will be cloudy or not. We certainly can’t have a movie night outside even if it is dark enough now.

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

      Christer,
They did call them midgets on the film but now they are called little people or dwarfs. I also think you would like each of them. The Chopper chicks is really bad.

It is a cool day here as well, probably the 70’s which is typical for this time of year. We can still have hot days but hardly as many. The nights will be chilly now but dressing warmly will be okay.

      Have a wonderful day!

I skipped free music festival day three today and also slept a lot. I guess ~8 concerts plus 1 wedding in another town in 2 cold and rainy days was more than enough. I have to admit that I’m getting old.
After reading and listening to your songs I’m hungry now. Maybe wraps with anything I can find in the fridge? I’ll have to hurry, the British detective TV series Vera starts in an hour.
Enjoy Labour Day! – and don’t work too much 😉

      Birgit,
That schedule would do in anyone- young or old. Add the weather and I’d be bed bound for a while trying to recover.

I ended up making a naan pizza for lunch. It was a good choice.

I’m watching baseball. The Sox are in last place, but they’re playing their young guys, and they re fun to watch

I’ll try my best not to work too hard!

      Birgit – Vera series 6 ?

      • Birgit Says:

Hedley, Vera series 1 episode 2, we just started. So far I like it and I like Brenda Blethyn anyway. Back to TV… suspense…

      • Hedley Says:

Birgit, let me know if you like it, there are 5 series on DVD.

For the rest of us who didn’t get the entire summer off, Labor Day was and is a nice change of pace. A long weekend followed by a short work week. Here in Texas the kids have been back in School since August 26th. which is a late start since the last gov had them change the calendar to make sure no one goes back to school before the last week in August. Thank you Six Flags. BTW he’s running for President again and this time he’s wearing glasses to make people think he’s an intellectual 🙂 He’s the guy who last time couldn’t remember which Federal agencies he wanted to eliminate.

The Adventures of Robin Hood is a good one, but nothing can compete to Hitch’s North By Northwest except possibly Casablanca. I’m taking the week off to take a short vacation to Oklahoma City.

      Bob,
I hadn’t had the summer off for several years. As an administrator I was a full year employee so a long weekend was always welcomed.

They started back to school here last week. Employers here also make a similar argument about summer employees. College kids go back earlier now so the motels and restaurants want the high school kids as they are desperate for help.

I remember that federal agency misstep but hadn’t noticed the glasses.

Casablanca is about my favorite movie. Cary Grant is so great in North by Northwest.

      Have a great vacation!
