“Sometimes it’s easy to forget how much you miss people until you see them again.”

Last night was my 50th reunion from high school, the high school from which I didn’t graduate though I went there for three years. Before my senior year, my parents kidnapped me and forced me to move to the cape ( that’s how I first felt back then). Friends I hadn’t seen since my junior year in high school went looking for me so I could attend, and they found me on Facebook. The whole evening was great fun. They even gave me a diploma, a real one from way back in time. It was signed by Sister Melania, the principal at the time. The signature is pure nun which I can’t really explain, but if you saw it, you’d understand.

The drive home, a two-hour ride, was unbelievable. The thunder rolled and lightning lit up the sky. I swear I saw the lightning dance. It looked like the jitterbug with the arms and legs of both dancers moving in tandem. Another series of lightning bolts looked like the God and Adam in the Sistine Chapel with fingers extended but not touching. Some bolts reached from the heavens to the earth. It was spectacular.

The rain storm was something else. It was raining so hard I slowed to a walk. The backwash from trucks made it almost impossible to see so I followed the red lights of cars in front of me and hoped for the best. The rain stayed with me but became a windshield wiper storm, and I could see the road and cars again. I drove in and out of the rain until about Plymouth when it just stopped. I don’t know if the cape got any rain as the road was totally dry. It took me about two hours to get home.

I am sitting in my air-conditioned house. I was taken aback by the heat when I got the papers. It will be in the 80’s all week. I do not suffer heat well. The young me did, but this me prefers to be comfortable. I think getting older should have some perks and being cool on a hot day is one of them. I do have a long list of the rest of the perks but most of them are unlikely.  Having someone cater to my every whim probably won’t happen, but I’ll not cross it off the list just in case.

    Hi Kat,
I have someone to cater to my every whim. Unfortunately, it’s me. 🙂

You must have been driving through all the thunder and rain that I heard all around me but never got any of. There were clouds all around my house and some over my house. The radar showed things heading for my house. Nothing. The pavement was wet this morning so rain must have fallen during the night. That was all.

It’s great that your classmates found you and really great that they found you an authentic diploma.

I gave in and turned the AC on last night. It’s been on ever since and will stay on until relief comes. Hot and sticky is not my idea of comfortable. Bleh.

Enjoy the coolth of air conditioned splendor and the rest of the day.

      Hi Caryn,
Unfortunately it is me catering to me as well.

The storm was spectacular. I can’t remember the last time I saw lightning like last night’s. It was in front of me for the longest time.

I was taken aback by the diploma. It was the most wonderful gesture.

Mine too will stay on. When I got home last night, I knew it was already too hot in the house. It is just so easy to turn to cool.

      Have a great day!!

I have never been to a high school reunion. I went to a large high school in NYC that had 1137 seniors in 1965. I had four friends only one of which I know is still alive. I was not one of the “cool” kids and kept to my few friends. I wouldn’t didn’t know any of the other 1133 seniors then and wouldn’t recognize any today.

We can’t even beg a drop of rain. The temperature has dropped into the upper 90s with a low dew point. I can’t wait to get to Arizona next week becsuse they are having 110 plus days.

      Bob,
My whole high school didn’t even have that many students. I recognized many class mates last night, and I also see many classmates from the school where I ended up graduating. We didn’t have cool or uncool kids at either high school. Everybody mingled.

On of the guys there last night fly up from Arizona. He said it was great to be in cool weather. It is certainly all relative.

I love a good thunder storm like that but not driving around in those heavy showers. Thankfully most people here stops by the side of the road when that happens with the warning blinkers on so no one by accident drive in to all the standing cars. Last time we had a thunderstorm like that the lightning made things explode in our homes 🙂 My neighbor on the other side of the field had his entire electrical cabinet melted 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’ve never gone to our high school reunions, we were all friends but rarely ever did anything together outside school.

We’ll have temperatures in the low 70’s next week and I wish I could have stayed at home again but I don’t think my boss would like that 🙂 🙂

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

      Christer,
If the rain had gotten any worse, I would have pulled over. People here do too if they really can’t see. The last time I remember the pull-overs was during a hail storm. We haven’t ever had a storm which did in the electrical in our houses.

I haven’t been to any college reunions but I did go to the other high school’s reunions and will go to the 50th in October.

Days in the 70’s is great. I love those days this time of year. Maybe you should be sick!!

      Have a good evening!

Sounds like a great reunion. They must have been real friends when they still remember after such a long time.
Rain all day long here and I got wet twice but it was worth it. We went to a concert by bike, Bach cantatas performed by the great Collegium Vocale Gent in our century old industrial hall and we’ve had front row center seats, just perfect.

      Birgit,
We were all great friends. There were no groups the way there are groups today.

You do lead a wonderful life.
