      Gnu,
I could see the young Shirley Temple easily in the older Shirley. Her voice even had the same intonation.

My parents always watched Mitch Miller. I did sometimes, but I’d forgotten Mitch’s beard and how many singers there were. They do sound good.

      Gnu,
My parents were never Lawrence Welk fans, but I remember my grandmother watched his show religiously. There’s Bobby Burgess, a former Mousketeer. The audience is just so well dressed with men in suits and some women even in furs.

      Gnu,
As silly as this was, we all watched it. I probably would have recognized the theme even without he name attached.

      Gnu,
I just watched this program on a station called Decades. That station has classics such as The Millionaire and The Phil Silvers show.

Produce placement started far earlier than I remembered.

      Gnu,
I think this is the first Ozzy Osbourne song I have ever heard. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be-it was better than that!

I was creating a birthday card for my cousin last night and ended up using an image that opened up a trap door and all these songs fell out. First up… from 1948:

Don And Phil had a big hit in 1960:

Like what happened on hit after hit, the L.A. group of musicians called The Wrecking Crew didn’t get the credit. Another bunch of guys who could barely play their instruments did. From 1965:

Here’s a demo version from 1990 by one of my most favorite groups of all time:

        im6,
I know there is a movie about The Wrecking Crew but other than they accompanied the world on records I don’t know much about them individually.

You could always tell those musicians who couldn’t play guitar back then just by watching their hands.

      Judy Garland was a wonder.

I remember June 1969 when I was sitting in the hotel lobby for staging. I would be leaving in about 4 days for Ghana. I picked up a paper off the table and the only thing I remember is it announced Judy had passed away. I was saddened by her loss. I always watched her TV program!!

        im6,
I think you’ve either played or mentioned them before but I still needed to go looking. Their music received accolades despite the limited number of albums. I will learn more!

  11. im6's avatar im6 Says:

The way responses showed up, I’m not sure who you meant about needing to go looking for. If it’s XTC, they hardly have a “limited number of albums.” Unless you consider 30 or 40 “limited.” Stay where you are and I’ll teach you more and you won’t have to go looking, if you catch my drift.

What? You weren’t a big Bobby Goldsboro fan? Way too maudlin? Why, whatever makes you say that? You’re, of course, correct, but when was the last time you heard that sappy little number?

Judy didn’t just pass away that night back in 1969. She PASSED AWAY in spectacular fashion and started a revolution. At the ripe old age of — can you believe it? — forty-seven.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      im6,
When I looked up XTC, only a few albums were mentioned. I’ll stay right here! Consider your drift caught.

I can’t even remember when I last heard Bobby Goldsboro.

I totally forgot how young she was when she passed away. I guess she was singing for so long I figured she was much older.

I found this site when I was looking for more Judy info:

      • im6's avatar im6 Says:

        I doubt you’d like Judy’s salad…. PEAS!

I guess we can extrapolate and know where she would probably fall in the current “peas in guacamole yes or no” controversy.

  12. katry's avatar katry Says:

    im6,
I like peas but the olives would be out.

    I figure you’re right!

    • im6's avatar im6 Says:

I know you don’t like beans, so I (incorrectly, obviously!) assumed you wouldn’t like peas.

On my last Sunday dinner at home I got to pick the menu. I chose roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy and peas.

    im6,
I’m so glad there is nothing offensive about “Me Japanese Boy” and “Me Japanese girl.”

Take away the language and Bobby doesn’t sound half bad here.
