“Everyone needs fudge, Hildy. It’s how God helps us cope.”

Run, run for your lives! The world is coming to an end. A bright orb framed by azure has appeared in the sky. Its light is so dazzling I have to cover my eyes. I think it must be aflame.

A slight exaggeration perhaps but the sun has actually appeared, the first time in a couple of weeks or maybe years. I forget. I lost track. Today, though, is freezing cold. The sun is but a ruse. The prediction is 12˚ for the daytime high and 6˚ for tonight. When I went outside to get the papers, the cold took my breath away.

Last night we had a dusting, just enough to cover the car windows, the steps and the walkway. Before I went to bed I threw de-icer on the dog’s steps so they were clear for her this morning. Did I think of front steps? Of course not. I will walk gingerly.

A huge storm is coming tomorrow night. I just shrugged my shoulders at the news and went about my business. We have all become so inured to snow I lost my interest about 6 inches ago. The weatherman says 12+, but he has no idea what the + means in inches of snow. I figure it doesn’t matter.

My usual optimism is a bit buried. I have become indifferent. I am easily bored and drift from one thing to another. I read a bit, watch some TV, play backgammon on-line, clean a little and finally take a nap, exhausted by ennui.

I have to go out later. Gracie needs a few more cans of dog food to last through the storm. I need bread, not the pre-storm rush to buy bread, just bread. Chinese food has been on my mind so I’m thinking I’ll get dinner. I’m also thinking the bakery and a whoopie pie. Nothing blasts away indifference like chocolate.

We had a dusting here too today, it looked much worse but it was those tiny snow flakes that can fall for ever without leaving much trace of its existance. Around 32 right now but the temperature will drop some tonight and tomorrow will be a bit chilly. But compared to Yiou we have summer temperatures 🙂

We might even see the sun tomorrow but those predictions seems a bit optimistic to be honest. I’ve done all my shopping for the weekend so from now on I’ll just enjoy the weekend.

    Have a greast day!
    Christer.

      Hi Christer,
I just came in from doing my errands. It is 18˚. My hands were frozen, but I’m glad I went as now I can hunker down and wait for the storm.

Tomorrow lot of people will be out getting provisions for the storm so I’m glad I went today.

      Have a great evening!

Either we are more prepared for storms here or we may just be stupid and think we might reach a store anyway because people are never out buying lots of extra food only because a storm is coming their way 🙂 I guess it’s the latter because our storms are nothing compared to Yours. The two worst we’ve had here the latest 50 years just reached force 1 in Your storm scale.

        Christer,
When 2 feet of snow fall in one storm, roads are impassable so you should should have all the food you need. Plow could take a long while to get to you.

we are enjoying that same strange object in the sky! this is so far removed from my Minnesota feb experience. temp near 60..
i can barely cope. bushes are blooming, tulips and daffodils are coming up. while I understand that this is early for here, i’ll take it.
    and cope fairly well.

      greg,
I wish I had the same problems with which to cope; instead, I am trying to stay warm. Going out today was so cold. Every person was totally bundled.

I figure you deserve good weather after Minnesota!

    Hi Kat,
The sun is out here as well. It’s melting snow and ice all over but it still isn’t making the air any warmer. The morning dog walk was painful. Nobody wanted to be out there any longer than it took to do the business. I’ve been out a couple of times since and it’s not any better.

There are some things I need to do but I cannot work up any enthusiasm for going outside in this bitter cold. I’m wandering around from thing to thing trying to overcome the boredom. Nothing is working. Spring needs to come soon.

    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
No melting here as the sun isn’t strong enough. The streets are still rutted ice. I slid around my corner.

I had no choice but to go out: I had PT and really did need more cans of dog food. Now I’m home and cozy and warm.

I can wait for spring, but I sure as heck need a warm day.

I got so bored I took the dogs for a walk which they were not really happy about. Piki Dog kept doing the sidestroke through the snowbanks in an effort to scrape off his doggy coat. Rocky just looked cold and sad. I gave up, took them home and went grocery shopping. Now you know I must have been really stir crazy to go grocery shopping. 🙂
It’s amazing how much warmer 15ºF feels simply because it isn’t 6ºF. 🙂

      • katry's avatar katry Says:

        Caryn,
I finished PT, did a little shopping and then got the dog food. I was freezing.

Now they are saying Monday morning with the wind chill could be -30 degrees with an actual temperature of -3.

        You’re right about 15˚.

Don’t give up hope, spring will come. We saw the first glimpse of spring today. Sunny blue sky and quite warm and I eagerly soaked up all sunshine I could get. I was downtown to replace my old decrepit pet with a new young one. Yup, I’m cruel. I’m speaking of my computer mouse.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Birgit,
You had me going for a second, but I knew there was a catch.

Because we’re looking at a blizzard warning, I have trouble picturing spring. I know it is somewhere in my memory banks but each successive storm seems to dim that memory.

This morning we had the coldest morning of the year here in Toronto. The temperature at seven thirty this morning was -22C. I had to switch the rental car’s thermometer over to Fahrenheit to make sure it was as cold as I felt. Seven degrees below zero is cold in either scale. The sun shone most of the day and the wind was light. Although there is frozen slush and dirty snow on the grassy areas the roads have been clear since last weekend. They are forecasting light snow tonight. My plane leaves for Dallas in the morning where I know it will be warmer. It can always be worse. 😀

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Bob,
We will have our coldest day this weekend-they are predicting -12˚ for Sunday morning. I doubt I’ll even get a paper from Boston.

The roads are still rutted and icy as we haven’t had a warm enough day to defrost them.

You’ll be happy to be in the warmth again!

  6. Coleen's avatar Coleen Says:

We will get clipped by your storm…1-3 inches.

It was very cold – – in the teens – – when I went out today. I am so done with all this…spring cannot come soon enough.

I have even run out of words. THAT says a lot.

    Stay warm.

    Pitchers and catchers,

    Coleen

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Coleen,
1-3 inches are like a mere spit in the ocean!

I was really good finishing errands today but couldn’t wait to get home. I was cold the whole time. Spring is hiding.

Truck day has come and gone!
