“I call this season fake weather. The sun is shining but it cold like the north pole outside.”

Piles of Christmas bags filled with wrapped presents sits on the couch ready to be boxed and mailed. My marathon wrapping session of Colorado gifts has ended. When I finish here, it is over the river and through the woods to UPS where they will box and sent. I will pay and breathe a sigh of relief.

I don’t have my tree yet. That will have to be on Sunday as tomorrow is booked with the annual play then out to dinner with my sister. The play this year is Meet Me in St. Louis. The dinner will be Italian. It always is.

I need to get in gear. My house isn’t the magical Christmas scene it usually is by now. My back is to blame. It hurts when I carry things and hurts when I don’t. The only time I get relief is sitting with pillows behind me. I’m thinking that sounds like a bon-bon day. I’ll wear frills and call for the maid to indulge my every whim.

A spawn of Satan came in the mail. im6 sent it to me. The spawn is grasping a bag of acorns, ammo I suspect. It is in this room with me. I swear its eyes follow me, and I think I heard the acorns rattling. The spawn is cute which is its weapon. You get drawn in and then whack. The spawn has you. Gracie thought it was hers. She does have several stuffed toys so it was a natural mistake, but I saved the spawn from Gracie clutches. I don’t know why. I’ll regret it. I’ve seen all the movies. Chucky comes to mind.

Today is sunny and the sky is blue. I almost didn’t recognize either one as it has been so long since their last appearance. They are welcomed, but neither is enough to keep the cold at bay. It’s in the mid 30’s and will stay that way all day. It’s a bundle day.

And so as I stare at my tinsel free tree (not really), I have to ponder that THE Detroit Tigers have allowed Rick Porcello to wander off to the Blue Sox for Cespedes. Both are free agents after the Tigers win the World Series and I would guess that the Bengals didn’t want to cough up $100M for Rick.

On this one Kat – you definitely win – Rick can pitch. I clumped up some tinsel and threw it at the dog when I heard the news. Not a trade that I wanted.

The MDHs including the Prince are heading over to Meadowbrook Theatre tonight for “A Christmas Carol”. I know how it ends but that is ok

      My Dear Hedley,
Cespedes is a good deal in a trade. He did well for my home town team for the short time he was here. I hope he subleased.

The Sox are in dire need of pitching. Lester went to the Cubs so the Sox are still in the hunt for an ace. Sorry for poor Maggie bearing the wrath.

Have a wonderful time. That is such a great play. I have seen it several times on stage and never tire of seeing it.

The storm will go much further south than they expected so it won’t be that bad here after all. I like a good storm but don’t mind if it miss me either 🙂

I’m behind in decorating too, I still have no lights outside. Woukld have helped me today if they had been shining because I stood outside shouting loud after Orvar, I thought he had jumped the fence and walked away. I had let him out by the entrance door. It wasn’t until I fetched the flashlight that I saw him standing by the kitchen door 🙂 There are no strong lights shining in his head but he is the kindest dog there is 🙂

Have a great day and keep Your eyes on that squirrel 🙂

    Christer.

      Christer,
I love thunder and lightning storms, but not if they flood the roads. I love watching the snow fall but I don’t want to be marooned in my hose.

I wlll take a nice dog over a smart dog every time. He probably wondered what was wrong with you calling for him when he was right there. I can hear Orvar thinking he’s not the smartest of people but he does love us so.

My eyes are always on that spawn!

Last year we had a terrible ice storm but today the weather is a balmy 65 degrees and partly sunny. Texas weather is so variable that if you don’t like it just wait a few minutes and it will change. We are going to get a good soaking this weekend which hopefully will help with the drought.

I’m off from work until January second because I have to burn some vacation days and we close down the week between Christmas and New Years. This year we can accrue one year’s worth of vacation time into the next year. Vacation is considered an earned benefit and the bean counters hate to carry a large expense like vacation time on the books. Some companies make you use vacation time during the year or lose it.

    I’m getting bored already.

      Bob,
It is 39˚ right now, and it will soon start to get colder as the afternoon turns into evening. Gracie and I just got back from doing errands.

My dad used to take Christmas week off every year. He’d take us for light rides, decorate the outside and help my uncle at his fish market for a couple of days before Christmas. For the Italians, Christmas Eve is the feast of the seven fishes so the fish market, in an Italian neighborhood, was always busy. My dad would be happy helping my Uncle Lorrie, his fishing buddy. He really had some fun.

In the Peace Corps, we accrued 2 vacation days a month, and they accumulated. For me, it was no big deal as I always had school holidays off anyway. Now volunteers use the days to leave their posts for holidays.

    Cute squirrel alert:
Someone has to hide Kat’s water gun when she isn’t looking!

      Birgit,
The spawn is a gift, an inanimate reminder of the banes of my life. It is safe, but not those who pillage and are marauders. They are my targets. Do pass that along to Amnesty Intersquirrel.

    Who is Sage Canny?

    • katry Says:

      dogma,
I haven’t the faintest idea. I found this quote on Goodreads, and it was just right to fit my musings. I went looking and didn’t find any information on Sage Canny except there are no books by this author. Perhaps a pseudonym.

    Kat,
I think someone or some creature put a sleepy pill in my food.
I’ve been so tired, and I am not doing much. I love the spawn gift.
The first part of the storm passed, and it didn’t affect where i am living, but did in areas very close. No way would I drive.
I can’t get Sarfari to download my browser with the current Flashplayer. It works on Firefox, Jewel’s browser, but not on mine. I’ve installed it before, and don’t know why it won’t work now. I can’t listen to Youtube or any games, so I’m going thru withdrawl.
Sorry your back hurts–I know the feeling. I should be doing my P.T. exercises, but I haven’t been. Shameful.
I think there is a ghost above my bed, but Cookie is the only one who “sees it’. She’ll come up sometimes for a little bit, look up at the ceiling and run into the other room.

    Take Care,
    Lori and the Crew

    • katry Says:

      Lori,
I went through an I’m tired spell. The PT is wearing me down as my back kills when I’m done. This last week I have been really busy so I’m out of my sleeping funk. Good timing too as I have much to do for Christmas.

I’m glad you’re okay and have missed the storm. This morning’s paper had a huge story and pictures of the mud sides and flooding.

      Cookie is canny!

      Be better!
