“Once the rain starts falling it’s hard to tell it to stop…”
The wind is howling and the rain is falling sideways. My backyard trees are again dancing in the wind, back and forth and back and forth. The rain has flooded roads and is falling so heavily that even a quick dash means getting cold and wet. This morning I made four stops. First was the library board meeting, then the post office, then PT and finally the store for life’s essentials: bread, cat food, chicken and a chocolate bar.
I am so happy to be back inside my warm, dry house. When I finish writing, I’m going upstairs and put on my cozies. I bought some clam chowder for dinner. It seemed perfect for a day like today.
Yesterday I brought up a few Christmas decorations from the cellar and later today I hope to decorate some more. The tree in the dining room is lit. I like to go the long way around to the stairs so I get to see the tree. I can hardly wait for the big tree, but now I have to hope for a couple of dry days.
The gold finches have braved the rain and are at the feeder though it swaying in the wind. The red spawn doesn’t seem to like the rain. He is probably in a cozy nest snacking on my sunflower seeds. If he were a character in The Wind in the Willows, his nest would have comfy furniture, a fireplace and a filled pantry. He’d be sitting by the fire with his feet on an ottoman as he drinks afternoon tea from a dainty China cup.
The last wind storm took down several of my outside decorations. I had to go down the side hill which is covered with brush, thorns and branches. Getting down is never the problem. Getting back up always is as I have nothing to hold on to help pull myself up. The other day I threw the ornaments I had retrieved onto the grass above the hill so I could have both hands free. I made it safely up the hill, a major accomplishment for me.
Now to my slippers and my cozies and maybe, just maybe, a nap.

Radio evening today, Champions League soccer starts soon, afterwards 2 concerts, first an interesting singer from the Faroe Islands and then lovely Zimbabwean female vocal music.
Though it’s not Ghana, perhaps you like the 2nd concert too? Here’s their 2014 promo as a teaser:

Birgit,
Luckily I got up from a nap in time to hear the last half of it. Now I want to find their music so I can listen whenever I want. I wonder if they are coming here.
Thanks so much!!

Birgit,
Their songs are beautiful, and I love the music. The beat is almost mesmerizing. To think they do all this just with their voices. Magnificent!

We’re about to get a storm here too within a few hours. Winds will reach up to around 49-50 mph. I think my home will be protected from the wind because it is supposed to come from south and then it hits my neighbors cottage and it is placed higher up than my cottage 🙂
It will also bring snow so I’m sort of glad I’m home sick so I don’t have to drive to work tomorrow when the roads will be anything but fun to drive on 🙂
I can see how the squirrel just enjoys the evening in front of the fire 🙂 perhaps he will have something stronger added to the tea, it is after all winter 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
I never thought the rain would stop, but it finally did and so did the wind. Part of the state was so much colder than here the roads were icy. The wind was just so noisy.
I too am glad not to have to think about when the world turns icy. I get to wait until the sun melts everything or not go out at all.
I bet the squirrel is a scotch guy!
Get better!

Hi Kat,
Your quote reminded me of a scifi short story I read a long time ago. It started raining and it did not stop. The protagonist figured out that it was the Another Day from the old rhyme Rain, rain, go away. He had to chant the rhyme and count how many times it took to make the rain stop so that he could chant that number plus one the next time it started to rain. For as long as he lived.
It’s still raining and windy up here. Maybe I should start chanting. 🙂
I have been out for dog walks today. Not fun. Nobody enjoyed it. It’s going to be a long winter.
I think your squirrel is a scotch guy, too. Can’t see him sitting by the fire sipping tea. Too gentil homme. 🙂
Enjoy the evening.

Hi Caryn,
I don’t know that story, and I am a scifi fan and used to teach a scifi course so I’m surprised I don’t know it. I think I need to join you in the chant.
It was pouring so hard I got soaked just running from the car to the store.
No tea for that spawn-neat is how he takes hi scotch.
Have a warm, pleasant evening!

We would love to have a nice steady rain storm. We are going to close out 2014 way behind in rainfall and the surrounding lakes, which are our reservoirs are very low. Eventually we will turn on the kitchen faucet and nothing will come out.
This morning there was enough moisture in the air to create widespread fog this morning. The runway visual range at DFW airport was 400 feet. Besides creating an air traffic nightmare driving to work was no fun. Later this week the weather is forecasted to be in the 70s with a chance of rain. From the weather man’s mouth to god’s ear 🙂

Bob,
Nothing about this rain was nice or steady. It was relentless and cold and ugly. Some places got 3 or more inches. We have had a rainy fall. I’ll be happy to share.
70˚ is ideal weather. I would love some sun. It has been gone a long while. The rest of the week will have a few ore days of rain. I think my feet are getting webbed.

Hi Kat,
We are due for some very heavy rain and storms beginning tomorrow. I’ll just stay in the house with Cookie kitty.
I’m sure you’ve heard about the protests in Berkeley. Every day it sounds like a helicopter is going to land on my roof. There are sirens, and yesterday the city council meeting was cancelled.
P.T is going O.K., and I actually went swimming the last Friday.
Time to take a nap or eat a late breakfast ( protein bar ) or maybe both.
Take Care,
Lori and the Crew

Hi Lori,
We had over 3 inches of rain over the last two days, but it has finally stopped. I’m hoping it will be dry enough to get my tree now.
I have read about the protests in the paper. It sounds nasty, and I did see some film.
I’m glad your PT is going well, good you’re swimming again.
A nap just after you got up? I could never be tired so soon after waking. I hope you didn’t eat in bed-crumbs.
Be well,
Kat and the kids
