“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.”

Last night it poured and peals of thunder and bolts of lightning added drama. The thunder rumbled at first then kept getting closer until one cracked overhead and rattled the house, but that was the final act, thunder’s last hurrah. After that, the rain fell for a bit then it too disappeared. Today is colder than yesterday and will get colder still. Tonight will be in the low 20’s. It’s time to pull out the flannels.

Gracie is nine today. She is celebrating her birthday with a nap on the couch and some loud snoring. Tonight she’ll have a hamburger, no ketchup but maybe some cheese.

It is so quiet around here. No cars pass down the street, the kids are in school and for once no dogs are barking back and forth. The wind is strong but it is a quiet wind with no whooshing, no train sounds like the heavy winds bring. The trunks of the trees are steady and only their leaves are blowing.

I loved walking home from school and watching the wind blow the leaves on the sidewalk. Sometimes the leaves blew in a small whirling pool, an eddy of yellow. I’d always stop to watch. It was a bit of magic as if a magician had pointed his wand and told the leaves to dance.

The fall is passing so very quickly. Crisp days are turning cold. Not long ago the leaves were ablaze with color. Brown is now their only color. Yesterday I was sitting on the deck on a very cold wooden chair waiting for the red spawn to return. As I sat there, I saw single brown leaves falling slowly to the ground from one tree and another then another. The leaves fluttered the way snowflakes sometimes do. I watched a while until I got too cold. The spawn didn’t return, but I didn’t care. I got to watch the leaves.

Many Happy Returns of the day to Gracie

And as we prepare for the DETROIT LIONS to run all over the Pats on Sunday down the Gillette, there was a very telling article in the WSJ where Stubhub have established a correlation between NFL ticket sales and concerts

Not surprisingly Patriot Fans cannot get enough of One Direction.

In the spirit of “50 Words for Snow”, the Smoke Fairies are issuing a limited run CD “Wild Winter”. Here is “Christmas without a kiss” and frankly it is rather good

      My Dear Hedley,
I will pass that greeting along to Gracie.

All the preparation in the world will not prepare the detroit lions for the PATRIOTS now on a sizzling streak.

I tried to find the article about Stubhub was wasn’t successful.

Would the One Direction be to the goalposts?

This is quite a different Christmas song, but I liked, didn’t love it, but liked it.

    Hi Kat,
We were out this morning in the swirling leaves. I had on my down parka and my earflap hat with the tassels on the ears and the top. The wind was rather strong. I wasn’t taking chances.
I walked the boys up to the church because I wanted to take some photos while they were doing their business. Piki Dog, in his perverse way, refuse to do his business until I walked him all the way back home and into the back yard. Sigh. :/

Rocky and Piki Dog wish Gracie the best of days on her birthday. Napping is a wonderful way to spend one’s birthday, whatever the species. 🙂

Enjoy the hamburgers and the day.

      Hi Caryn,
Last night we had the swirling leaves in the tremendous wind but not today.

I have to laugh. Piki Dog is perfectly contrary. He won’t go in the yard when it’s raining but will when you don’t want him to.

Gracie thanks Rocky and Piki Dog. She just lunched on the remains of my chicken pot pie and loved it. Luckily she didn’t find the hidden pills!

      Enjoy the afternoon!

    Birgit, you are too funny!

Hey, Kat, did you get Gracie a present?

    Happy day, doggie!

Waving under the layers ’cause it’s freakin’ cold,

    Coleen

      Coleen,
I got Gracie a new toy as if she needed one. She has a boxful some dating from her puppyhood.

I have to leave her for a bit while I go to PT but I’ll give her goodies when I return.

Not so freakin’ cold here yet-coming later!

      Waving!

      🙂

    Congratulate Gracie from us 🙂

No more leafs can fall here I think. There might be a few left on places where the wind don’t reach but they would be very few. Finally the wind has calmed down and now they say temperatures will drop but not as much as it will over at Yours.

It’s always very quiet here, not even when people have a party they make noise. I’m the only one making and louder sound and It’s when I shout forn the dogs when they have taken a walk by themselves 🙂

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

      Christer,
I’ll pass the happy words on to Miss Gracie.

My oak trees have so many brown leaves many of which will last all winter. The yard is totally covered.

Gracie is not allowed to take walks by herself. She takes off all the time but it has been awhile since her last escape.

      Have a great evening!

    Happy birthday Gracie!
Winter has arrived here in Toronto. Yesterday morning snow accumuled on the rental car but the temperature hovered around freezing and the snow didn’t stick to the roads. Today the sun came out but high winds and air temperatures around 25F are bone chilling. I know it’s Canada but this is too cold for November even here. Thank goodness I’m not 50 miles south in Buffalo where they got about three feet of snow. Obviously, locaton is everything around the Great Lakes.

    • katry Says:

      Bob,
We’re going down to the teens tonight. It started to get colder when the sun went down. I’m also thankful for none of the snow Buffalo is getting-up to 4 feet in places.

I agree your having snow and freezing temps is far too soon!

My sister in Colorado has had temperatures below freezing and snow. I don’t want that either.

  7. im6 Says:

I figured YouTube would have a video or two of dogs singing Happy Birthday, but I had no idea there’d be so many. Best Wishes, Gracie

  8. sprite Says:

Belated happy birthday wishes to Gracie!
