Damned TV commercials, whenever I hear this patriotic march I have to think of detergents 🙁
Only the Muppets can cure my ad-infected brain now:

      Birgit,
It isn’t ever a commercial here so I got to admire The Muppets just for who they not, not as a diversion. Thanks!

      minicapt,
I haven’t ever heard this one before. It seems that Mr. Sousa didn’t realize how adaptable his music would be.

    The words:
Be kind to your web-footed friends
For that duck may be somebody’s mother,
She lives in a nest in a swamp
Where the weather is always damp.

You may think that this is the end,
Well it is, but to prove we’re all liars,
We’re going to sing it again,
Only this time we’ll sing a little higher.

      minicapt,
I had totally forgotten this song. We used to sing it at camp when I was a brownie and girl scout.

The first time I heard this as a big band march thing, it was at boot camp in TX. I always thought it was about things living in the swamp, like the lyrics above. When someone told me it was originally written to be a real marching song and then asked where I had spent my whole life. LOL Yes, I was a New England red neck and grew out in the outback of Massachusetts. LOL

      Carl,
Every year the next town over had a huge July 4th parade and bands often played this so I knew it early on then I saw a movie about Sousa and his marches. This is my favorite though I also like The Washington Post March.
