Ha ! I was sitting at my desk thinking that if ever there was a day to post Vera Lynn this is it. Great one Kat, you must be “psycho”
Dame Vera is a national treasure. Now 97 she has released a new compilation for everyone to enjoy. She was the first person over the age of 90 to top the UK charts.
Growing up, it was made very clear what Dame Vera meant to everyone during the war.

My Dear Hedley,
I just might be psycho.
She was my first choice, and I was hard-pressed to think of anyone as iconic as Vera Lynn. I think of her when I hear this song no matter who is singing it.
I love it when the men’s voices join hers. I can see her singing this in front of soldiers somewhere.

It refuses to play the song for me today?! We still hear this one on radio every now and again.

Christer,
I wonder why as it did play for me. It takes a little time for some odd reason. If you want the download, let me know.

morpfy,
I haven’t ever heard the introduction to this song. I have only heard from the title words on. My mother used to sing this. How heartfelt for women whose men were fighting overseas and gone for years!

Great aerial footage. It’s amazing how far air warfare has come since WWII. Those shots look about as old as Mathew Brady photos from the Civil War.

Bob,
I thought the same thing but you have far better eyes for aerial footage and changes over time.

MDH,
I almost chose that song of hers. I was torn.
