  1. Haven’t heard this one in ages, Kat! I met Gordy very briefly on two occasions. I was working part-time in a music shop and he came in looking for script paper – it had to be a particular type, so I ended up calling around to the competition for him. The second time was when he came bombing in to my polling station for the provincial elections a few years ago – he looked like death warmed over!

You might think it’s an odd selection, but If possible, I’d love to hear S & G’s ‘America’ or Cat Stevens’ ‘Sad Lisa.’

    Thanks,
    Marie

      Marie,
I’ve heard him in concert, but that was in his heyday. I did see him recently, and you’re right-he does look like death warmed over. I hope I age better.

I have both songs in my files so you’re all set!

      You are always most welcome.

“High and Dry” was Lightfoot in full voice in the mid-70’s. Never saw Gord live, but he declined vocally (physically and mentally) in subsequent decades. He performed a concert in NYC in the 90’s with his back to the audience. Whatever! This song does have a fascinating back-story re:harmonist Cathy Smith (WIKI her!)

        Jay Bird,
That is just too weird to contemplate: his back to the audience.

That was one fascinating bio. The description of her as an occasional backup singer, rock groupie and drug dealer set the tone for the rest of the article.

        I saw the young Gordon.

      morpfy,

I was brokenhearted when they stopped singing together. I had one of their albums with me in Ghana-that’s how important they were to me.

      • This isn’t the one I meant, Kat – the song I had in mind mentions the New Jersey Turnpike and “they’ve all come to look for America” and “Kathy, I’m lost, I said, though I knew she was sleeping . . .”

        Marie,
You have me so confused here. It was Morpfy who posted the video. I never post them but my Coffee people do often.

If you look at the top of the video, above the date, you can see who posted it.

I was confused for a few minutes too, Kat, when I saw the video that Morpfy posted. I didn’t realize that they’d done two songs with ‘America’ in the title, so just wanted to make sure you knew which song I meant.

      • katry Says:

        Marie,
I knew exactly what you meant as the song is entitled America and the one morpfy posted is not.

    • Haven’t heard (or seen) this before, Morpfy. Thanks.

      Marie

      Morpfy,
I am going to post this lovely song for Marie who requested it. It is not one I hear too often. What an amazing voice he had.

You need to find “In the Early Morning Rain” performed by the Chor Leoni.

    Cheers
