‘Ye can call it influenza if ye like,’said Mrs Machin.’There was no influenza in my young days.We called a cold a cold.’

I woke to the sound of rain plunking on the windowsill. The day is dark with an on again, off again rain. It is much colder than yesterday, and I’d call it a wind, not a breeze, which is shaking the tree limbs.

My backyard is filled with scrub pine trees. They are far from the prettiest of trees, but they survive the salty air and the sandy soil and have become the most numerous of Cape trees. They easily sway with the strongest of winds. This time of year their needles turn brown, drop and cover lawns and backyards. Raking is futile. Gracie’s domain, the backyard, is covered in leaves and needles. I never lose track of her even on the darkest nights. Because the fallen leaves crunch under her paws, I can follow Gracie through the yard just by listening from the deck. Miss Gracie has a favorite route, and there is a path which circles the yard along the fence. I love to watch her running round and round until she is spent.

My house is so very quiet right now. It is warm and cozy. It is a day for lying on the couch under an afghan and reading. Later, I will have to drag myself out of the house to the dump as it is will be closed the next two days, and I have trash which can’t wait until Wednesday. The dump has no dress code so I can stay as I am even down to the slippers. Gracie will be thrilled for the ride to her second favorite place.

I’m thinking I might have a cold coming. My voice is raspy, and I keep clearing my throat as if that might make a difference. I may have only one symptom, but it’s a stand-out.

I hope it isn’t the same cold I had, it stayed for four weeks!

Most of the early day rained away but by noon it stopped and hasn’t started again. The creeks and ditches are once again filled with water so I think it’s enough with rain for this time 🙂

After I finished the laundry I did nothing but watching tv, nothing good to be honest but I didn’t feel like doing anything else. I did think of baking some cookies though but I didn’t have energy enough to go downstairs to do it 🙂 I might make some pancakes though since I am sitting in the kitchen right now 🙂

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

      Christer,
Me too-my friend had one for three weeks.

It has also stopped raining here, but it is a dreary day, totally uninviting. Even Gracie is staying inside.

I called and begged off from my usual Sunday night fun in case I have a cold coming. I don’t want to spread it. Other than the trash, I have no plans, a lazy day.

      Have a great evening!!

    Hi Kat,
The day started out cold and rainy but I went out into it anyway. I stood in the street talking to my neighbor while Rocky ran around loose and sniffed and peed on all the things. He was ecstatic.
I got a bit wet and it was a little too cool to be standing out there in just a long sleeved t-shirt and jeans but my neighbor needed to vent about stuff that was bothering her. I know the feeling so I listened.
My errand was to get d-con and bird seed. The combination had me humming Poisoning Pigeons in the Park to myself.
I also bought some spring bulbs, a dibble to plant them with, a new bird feeder and 6 programmable battery operated Xmas window candles. Big Orange Hardware Store thinks ahead and so did I.
    I have laundry in process.
I have a wake this afternoon.
    It is a busy day.
I think I will take next week off to compensate. 🙂

May your cold symptoms be a false alarm.
    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
It is still cold but the rain has disappeared leaving the clouds and a dark day behind it. Nice of you to give your neighbor time and an ear on a rainy day.

Gracie and I went to the dump. Luckily I didn’t see anyone I knew as I was still wearing my grubby sweatshirt , my slippers and the pants I only wear around the house.

I am impressed at your industry today. I didn’t even make my bed! Yup, you deserve to have next week off-a sloth week!

I’m already feeling a bit better. I think it just might have been from being so tired, not sleeping well the last two nights.

Have a great and restful evening!

Whenever I have a sore throat (or bladder problems) I make hot tea with fresh sage leaves from my garden. Bought sage tea tastes awful, but I like the taste of fresh sage tea and I think it helps.

      Birgit,
I always associated tea with being sick as that’s what my mother always gave me when I was a kid fighting being sick. I never drink hot tea because of that I think.
