I think inclusion of The Strangeloves officially marks the moment when KTCC stopped being primarily a folk music blog! So why not put a nail in that coffin?
im6,
That happened a long while back-the end of the Folk Era. Now the songs appear only once in a while. I went for the candy title, not the singers. Sometimes we all fumble.
Wasn’t making fun or passing judgment on your choice of songs or singers. You posted the original. Bow Wow Wow just did a cheesy, cheesy, cheesy cover that pretty much sums up all that was wrong with the 80s. Couldn’t pass that up!
im6,
Sorry, I took it to mean it was a bad choice. Now Bow Wow Wow would have been a really bad choice. I think that video is the first time I’ve ever heard this “singer.”
Bow Wow Wow actually have a pretty interesting history. Their big claim to fame was having a 13-year-old lead singer, Annabella Lwin (but I think she was 15 by the time their Candy video was made). They sure knew how to title their albums, too. (“See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang, Yeah. City All Over! Go Ape Crazy” is certainly catchy!) Thanks for posting the Big Maybelle song. As your candy theme is Halloween-related, thought I’d send along this silly song for the enjoyment or scorn of the Coffee crowd:

im6,
I actually thought Bow Wow Wow was just one person who had chosen an odd singing name.
Now I know more than I ever wanted to know!

Hi Kat,

Marie,
You are most welcome. No one belts out a song like Big Maybelle.
I haven’t heard this song before, and I did get a chuckle!! Love the lyrics-especially the refrain.
