Add Some Music to Your Day: The Beach Boys

Why all The Beach Boys would be a reasonable question. The answer is simple-these songs are a birthday gift to my friend im6, as he calls himself when commenting. His birthday is today. I had to give him just the right present so I’m giving him The Beach Boys!

Happy Birthday, My Friend!!

Thanks for the dedicated day, Kat. Hedley must be having a conniption fit! I can certainly relate to “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” (in concept), but I’m pretty sure “I’m So Young” applies any longer! Hope my fellow members of the Coffee Clan will excuse the indulgence and maybe gain a new appreciation for the BBs. Off to a play this afternoon and tonight’s “The Amazing Race” and “Homeland” (plus a few more!), so MY dance card is full!

    • im6 Says:

Of course that should read something like: “I’m So Young” DOESN’T apply any longer! (sigh)

      im6,
You are very welcome. Actually, Hedley reminded me it was your birthday so I suspect he’ll be sending well wishes.

Our Coffee Clan is more than happy to help you celebrate.

I love your planned evening! Mine is similar to yours but we play a few games first while we enjoy appies. I have to shop as I’m doing the appies tonight.

May your day be perfectly glorious!!

      • im6 Says:

So far so good. Cool night and rain last night and today is bright and sunny and perfectly warm. I even see a fluffy white cloud or two!

      • katry Says:

        im6,
Even Mother Nature has prettied the world for your birthday!!

  2. Hedley Says:

Im6, I wish you a very happy birthday and enjoy Kat’s musical selections
Had I been asked, which I wasn’t, I would have pushed “Surfs Up” another great song

  3. im6 Says:

May have to post a link on my Facebook page if you don’t mind, Kat.

    Happy birthday, im6 !
I can’t remember the name of the German(-Austrian?) band you mentioned and like, but their music reminded me of the “17 Hippies” from Berlin which I saw live several times, so I hope you like:

    • im6 Says:

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Birgit, and also thanks for introducing me to such a great band I’d never heard before. 17 Hippies is/are phenomenal and, yes, they do remind me of Quadro Nuevo as well. I definitely intend to check out more of their stuff. When’s YOUR birthday?!

    • im6 Says:

Just listened to a bunch more by 17 Hippies, Birgit, and I’m very, very impressed. Like Quadro Nuevo, they’re all over the map, but they also have vocals like Pink Martini (another fave). Can you recommend an album of theirs as a starting point? It appears they’re VERY prolific so there’s a lot to choose from!

      • Birgit Says:

im6, I’m glad I found a band you didn’t already know. Sorry, no album recommendation. I try to hear them live whenever they are around, because it’s always great fun and you get the urge for dancing to their music, but I don’t have any records.
BTW another favorite live act of mine is Sydney Ellis. Coincidentally this concert was at my birthday and I sat in the second row in front of her and was completely overwhelmed:

    Kat,

In keeping with today’s theme and as a belated Happy Birthday to im6, here’s a BB’s related song written by Brian W. & Mike L. in ’64, but revised a few years later and recorded by the group as Darlin’.

I’ll leave it up to you whether or not to publish this.

So your identity has been revealed, Marie. You’re really Sharon Marie and you are probably really an ex-Honey or ex-Spring member. Or are you actually Marilyn Rovell?! 🙂 Amazingly, I have this song in my files (along with other “Pet Projects”), but had forgotten all about it. Thanks for my own personal vintage song of the day!

    • katry Says:

      Marie,
I can really hear the Beach Boys in this song. If you had made me guess, I think I could have nailed it.

      I haven’t ever heard this before-thanks!!

      Marie? im6 is right-your identity is revealed!1

  6. Marie Says:

    im6,

I’ll subject you to ‘Camping With Marie’ by Werly Fairburn one of these days, so watch out!!

Too bad I chose a song you already had in your collection. I should have known. Next time I’ll dig deeper!

Hope you had a great day!

    Marie

  7. Marie Says:

    Hi Kat,

You would have picked up on that Beach Boys connection right away. Next time I’ll have to try to maintain some mystery – especially now that you and im6 have exposed one of my many alter egos!

    😎

    Marie

      Hi Marie,
You are a woman of many layers, and we have only peeled back one of them! I’m on the lookout now!! You can’t hide long from us!!
