Nelly is hardly country, but was an interesting touch and fit pretty well.
Sipping “southern” is talking about “Southern Comfort”, which is sweet liqueur traditionally favored by women in the South. And the 4 bands that are viewed as the founders (70’s) of southern rock are Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers band, the Charlie Daniels band, and lastly the Marshal Tucker band.
So “sippin’ on southern and singin’ Marshall Tucker” would be considered highly positive attributes in these boys’ considerations.
