I think it ws back in 1970 or 71 when they proclaimed this to be Earth day. I can remember the Whole Eath Catolog came out and was a big thick paged book, full of earth things and Ideas.

      Morpfy,
It was 1970 because I was in Ghana and missed it. I read about it much later in a three month old newspaper.

Earth Day, OK, I’ll hug a tree now. But what if the tree doesn’t want to be hugged? No, seriously, coincidentally I started to maintain my bikes today as every spring, so I can use them whenever possible. Count it as Earth Day effort or not, but I don’t really need a special day to appreciate earth. I appreciate it whenever I see something nice or interesting and try to live without too much damage to earth.
Earth Day isn’t yet established over here, so I’m curious, has business already exploited this day like you should buy flowers or similar or is it really a non-commercial holiday?
I appreciated your songs today, but I seldom appreciate mornings.

      Birgit,
Riding your bike is a green thing to do and every time someone of us does green, we save a small bit of the Earth.

Yesterday, because it’s not opened today, our dump was giving away tiny trees for us to plant.

Earth Day is so many things and planting flowers is way down on the list: it’s still too cold to plant, but planting perennials when you can plant is one way to celebrate Earth Day. It’s also cleaning up a park, using material bags instead of plastic bags for groceries and returning the plastic ones to the store, carpooling to work, growing vegetables, buying locally and on and on, but I figure you get the idea. Earth Day should remind us of what we can do every day.

I just heard Richie Havens passed away.
Go we all so hide not the love…..

    • Kat Says:

      Beto,
I also heard it on the news. They played him singing at Woodstock: it’s still amazing.
