“You can’t teach people to be lazy – either they have it, or they don’t.”

Today is another grey, rainy day, but it’s warm which sort of compensates. Yesterday was busy for me, and I got a lot done. We, Gracie and I, went to the dump then to the garden shop for pumpkins, gourds and mums. They now adorn the front steps. I had two other stops, but I brought Miss Gracie home first as she found the car a bit warm. Today I’ll also be going out: two days in a row is unheard of for me. I’ve been home over two weeks, and the gas tank is still half full.

A while back I saw the Facebook picture of someone I’ve known since the first grade. We were friends and college roommates, but my time in the Peace Corps was when I lost track of her and most of my college friends as the distance between us became more than miles. In that picture I mentioned she was wearing a hat, a dress and pearls. She was June Cleaver or Donna Reed. We have definitely drifted very far apart.

I haven’t a whole lot of ambition today. Over the weekend I made pumpkin cookies, did a laundry and polished this room. The other day I did a couple of errands and yesterday I crossed more errands off my list. I think I’m exhausted. When I worked, all of those would have been done on Saturday except for the dump. That was always on Sunday. Now I spread my chores and my errands over a week or even two weeks and still I complain. It hasn’t anything to do with getting tired or being older. It has to do with jealously guarding my time. I want every day. I want to read all day or take a nap or not even get dressed. I want to fun shop. I want to play. I want to loll on the couch with bon bons. I deserve all of it!

Sgt Pepper had just been released, Spurs had beaten Chelsea 2-1 in the Cup Final, Tommie Smith was thinking about the Mexico Games ahead and Yaz won the triple crown

45 years later, we salute Miguel Cabrera on his extraordinary achievement

The Oakland Athletics and our friend Brandon Inge come to town on Saturday and Sunday and the playoffs begin.

    “We’re all behind our baseball team;
    Go get’em, Tigers!
    World Series bound and pickin’ up steam;
    Go get’em, Tigers!”

    • My Dear Hedley,
I will be happy to cheer for the Tigers as my Sox were last; totally last!

That is absolutely amazing and I too salute him!!!

Katmah, really looking forward to the playoffs and hopefully I will be at Comerica on either Saturday or Sunday. Verlander goes on Saturday night.
However, I dont want to rush past this incredible performance by Cabrera. Now if he doesnt get the MVP at the end of the year….

We will also catch The Prince’s second flag football game this saturday, when he tries to emulate last week when he ran for 60 yards and a touch down.

“Pumpa, the coach told me to run around the corner, so I run around the corner and I run run run” – love that Prince, 6 years old and NFL bound

    Right, you deserve it !
According to the title quote: Laziness – I have it. But today I can’t live it. Rain found its way into the cellar and we have to clean up and find the reason. Now the 10 min laziness break with your 2 laziness songs is over, back to work. Sigh.

    • Thanks, Birgit!

My mother used to have a flooded cellar. She’d go outside in the middle of a torrential downpour and dig a canal around the windows to give the rain a place to flow away from the house, but the cellar would still flood. Before we sold the house, we put in a French drain, and the problem was solved.

So Katmah consider this, on October 5 1962, the Beatles released their very first single “Love Me Do” which wandered in to the top 20 in the UK. Therefor its arguable that tomorrow is the anniversary of 50 Years of Beatlemania.

    • My Dear Hedley,
The Prince is most decidedly heading for the NFL. After last week’s successful running game, the Pats could use him and slide him right into the romping roster.

I remember when Love Me Do hit the radio here. It was an amazing sound, and we all wanted more.

      • Hedley Says:

The Prince has size, speed and his Pumpa standing ready to act as his agent. I am getting the tapes together and accepting offers for Middle School. We are dealing with an initial approach by Cranbrook – they sent over some chap who said that he wants to be President

There’s a fly flying around my kitchen in a sort of lazy autumn speed, I’ve hit it in the air several times but it just continues its lazy buzzing. I wouldn’t mind lolling on the couch eating bonbons either 🙂 But that will have to wait until Saturday 🙂

I try to avoid those Facebook pictures 🙂 It’s better to remember them as they were 🙂 🙂 🙂

I think we had beautiful weather all day today and the evening sky is clear with lots of starts shining. Fog slithers its way over the fields and I think we’ll have frost tomorrow. I hope lots of tics and mosquitoes dies 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Hi Kat,
Laundry is still in the drier and washing machine from yesterday. Dishes are still in the sink from… a while ago. I forget.
I did unpack from my vacation which is why the laundry is where it is. The suitcase is still on the floor in the dining room where I put it to unpack. Don’t ask. It’s easier to do it there.
However, I have read a few Father Brown mysteries, gotten most of a sweater and half a stole knitted. I’ve done some photography and played with the dog. I’ve done some cooking.

    Laziness is a relative term.
Enjoy the couch and every last bon bon. We’ve earned it. 🙂

    • Hi Caryn,
My laundry is also still in the dryer. The sense of accomplishment comes from doing it, not retrieving it, but I have putting it upstairs on the list for tomorrow.

Because most of my clothes had been washed before I left Ghana, emptying my suitcase was easy. What is still around is stuff I have yet to send to people Half of it is gone, but a bunch of baskets are waiting by the front door-tomorrow-I swear!

You are so right: we have earned the privilege of lolling and eating those bon bons.

The Rangers blew a 16 game lead since July in the American League West and let the A’s take first place in that game yesterday afternoon. As William Bendix used to say in the TV show “The Life of Riley”. “What a revolting development this is” 🙁

The only thing worse this week is when ‘Da Bears’ beat the Cowboys Monday night. Tony Romo passed for five interceptions and showed a national audience a horrible performance. It’s easy to pick on Tony but the rest of team stank up the billion dollar joint. Yet another Life of Riley moment in sport’s most valuable franchise. Jerry Jones is the only owner who is also the general manager. I think he would love to coach, but then he couldn’t fire himself. As a famous lawyer once said, “An attorney who represents himself has a fool for a client”.

One might even consider moving to Detroit, one of America’s least appealing cities, to go on welfare because all of the auto jobs have been exported to Mexico, the deep South and Korea 🙂

Maybe the NHL owners will lockout the players and cancel the season as they did in 2004/2005 and we will have another revolting development.

    • Bob,
I second Riley only I’m applying it to the last place Red Sox: a travesty!

I watch the Pats, but I am not enough of a football fan to watch other games though I do check the scores on Monday. I haven’t ever been a Bears fan so I can commiserate with you.

I don’t even miss hockey-didn’t that whole season either.

  7. Hedley Says:

And consider this Katmah, “Dr No” was released 50 years ago tonight

    • My Dear Hedley,
I always thought that one of the best Bond movies!

      • Bob Says:

When Ursula Andress came out of the water and onto the beach in Dr. No, every boy fell instantly in lust. Most of them fell asleep nightly with her image fresh on their minds. That was the cinematic moment that convinced every male on the planet that if they wore a tuxedo, played baccarat and ordered a martini shaken and not stirred they too could bed an Ursula Andress.

  8. im6 Says:

    Don’t forget Sputnik!

  9. im6 Says:

Almost forgot… and this ties in with the June Cleaver mention…. “Leave It To Beaver” debuted this day in 1962. (Sputnik was 1957)
