24 Comments on “The Tricks of London: Steeleye Span”
ok, how can I not jump at this Katmah selection, from a somewhat later Steeleye Span album. Teasing me in to discussion with the London reference and then blasting me with a track from Horkstow Grange when Maddy Prior was gone…..No Maddy, no Steeleye Span in this camp.
South of the river was my territory but i would cross to go to Tottenham, play or to walk in to my beloved LSE crossing Waterloo Bridge and heading around the Aldwich,
“We are London” sang Madness, yup never goes away :-0
Ulm as in Germany. Many of my relatives came from that City and we spent several happy summers in Ulm when we were teenagers.
Now lets see who was the most famous son of Ulm ????
The good thing with proven lineage, is that you can claim almost anything. I’m not sure that Al and I have/had the same musical tastes but our family was based in Ulm. So yup, a whole toe full of AE.

My Dear Hedley,
I am sorry to have disappointed you! I agree about Maddie but I didn’t know any other London Steeleye Span songs!
If I hadn’t played Waterloo Bridge so many times that would have been my choice.

Birgit,
I actually stayed in Ulm during a trip with my parents. I remember walking along the river but not much else.
I liked the tune of the second song though I have no idea what is being said.

Birgit, I have an Ulm sparrow in my office….

MDH,
I know the answer to that having been in Ulm. That would be Mr. Einstein!

And whom might be related to Einstein ?
October 1, 2012 at 7:25 pm
MDH,
Do I catch an inference in your question?
October 1, 2012 at 7:32 pm
Maybe……or maybe not, could be a smokescreen response

MDH,
I’m sure that geographical proximity does not translate into a shared lineage.
