Leaving on a Jet Plane: We know I Can’t Name the Singers!

When I went back to Bolga, Ghana last summer, my former students sang Miss Ryan’s song to me, and it was this one. They have been singing it the last forty years whenever they get together. Last week a former student I hadn’t seen last summer called to say hello and said she’d meet me at the airport. She ended the conversation by singing this song.

      Thanks, im6

I got the file you sent and am listening now. I like it but wasn’t sure until all of them began singing then it was Spanky and Our Gang the way I know them. Thanks!

PS I didn’t even know they did this!!

My knowledge of folk is on the average side, but I like it pretty well. Had a girlfriend in college who played guitar and sang like a bird, did the Joni and Joan melodies. But past the popular folk singers, don’t know a whole lot. I could have married that gal, but she went on for a doctorate and the South was calling me back home.

    Nos vemos..

      Spaceman,
Folk was the very first music I loved. I bought all of Dylan, Peter, Paul and Mary, Tom Rush, Joan and Joni. When I went to Ghana, I had PP&M, Joni and a few others I don’t remember.

Back in my college days, guitars were big and someone played one at most parties. They all did Joan, not so much Joni.

The singer is Mary Travers from Peter Paul and Mary. The original recording was 1967 on Album 1700

      Allan,
I don’t post their names as I was contacted by Noel Paul Stookey about taking down music. It was quite a controversy here for a while.

Thanks for adding the info in case some of my Coffee readers didn’t know.
