Arlo is super, but Goodman might have been thinking about Willie when he wrote this song ’cause it’s custom Willie.

And you may not be aware that Steve Goodman did write the most perfect country-western song ever, “You Never Even Called Me By My Name”, sung by the incomparable David Allen Coe. And Coe may be the most well-known country singer in spite of getting hardly any radio play (uh, some of his songs are pretty rough). This particular one is a bar standard in this part of the country and sure to have the audience singing the chorus with gusto.

Spaceman,
Sadly, this didn’t open so I’ll try and hunt it down on youtube as I’d love to hear Willie sing it.
I’ve just started listening to country, but even I know David Allen Coe so your are correct about him being well-known. I don’t know that Steve Goodman song but now you have my interest!

At the moment playing Willie Nelson, All of Me, Have always found it interesting that Willie first commercially popular music was playing songs what I refer to as lounge standards

Spaceman,
That was one of my mother’s favorite albums. Many were songs from her era. She became a Willie Fan.
Thanks for the link!!

Actually, Arlo could start collecting SS two years ago. If not sooner. I swear he starting looking old very prematurely and could probably have convinced people he was eligible 20 years ago. Based on all the YouTube videos, he’s as mellow as ever. I really admire that!

im6,
I figured as we were born in the same year he had to wait until he turned 65, but then I realized I was thinking of medicare, not SS.
His grey hair made him look older, but I agree with you that he’s still mellow. He was on the Pops 4th of July concert a few years back and was great.

Well, if you really interested in DAC, I would suggest these 3 without too much misgiving, 1) Long Hair Redneck (another road house classic) 2) It that Ain’t Country (the essential DAC), and 3) Would You Lay with Me in a Field of Stone (which is actually a very good song subsequently done by several others).

Spaceman,
I actually have posted him before on Coffee so I’m pleased for the suggestions as I don’t know too much about his music.
