Kat:
This is a truly great one. There is a close runner-up in the Billie Holiday recording.
BTW, I was out in the 95+ degree heat earlier doing a lot of concrete mixing and placing. Probably not a good idea for a man now in his 70th year 😉
Mark,
Both Ella and Louis are favorites of mine, and you are so right-together they are great! I also love Billie, but the last time I posted one of her songs it had to be taken down. I thought that strange as I’d posted her several times before. I guess I’ll have to disguise her name to throw off the bots.
Bad, bad idea to be out today doing anything, let alone mixing concrete! I think any job can wait for a cooler day: a wiser decision.
Though I love and adore Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday,
Janis Joplins version is my all-time favorite.
But have you heard Herbie Hancock / Joni Mitchell -Summertime?
It’s more bluesy than usual Joni, but it’s great !
Birgit,
I considered playing the Janis version, but the heat had me in more of an Ella mode. I haven’t heard the Hancock/Mitchell version. Is it on one of her albums?
You can pick up the Hancock/Mitchell version on youtube. Some production genius decided to mix in sounds of water on the beach – too bad, it might’ve been a contender otherwise. Janis, not so much (sorry, Birgit).
Thanks, but “not available” in my crazy country 🙁
How I hate that !
wikipedia: “Music videos for major label artists on YouTube,
as well as many videos containing background music,
have been unavailable in Germany since the end of March 2009
as GEMA sought to raise its fee charged to YouTube to
12 euro cents per streamed video […] ”
But I have the mp3-file on my computer 🙂

Herbie Hancock: Gershwin’s World (1998):

I know it was on YouTube, but I can’t find it anymore,
may be not available in my country …

Thanks, Mark. I found it with that annoying wave sound.
Birgit, The url is above; maybe you can find it!

Birgit,
I forgot you can post youTube right here so it’s above-annoying though.
