The original McDonalds was located in Southern California and the McDonald brothers ordered a dozen multi-mixers to make milk shakes in 1948. Ray Croc was the salesman in Chicago for the company that made the mixers and he couldn’t believe why anyone needed so many. He traveled to California and saw the crowds line up for just three items, burgers, fries and milk shakes. He then offered to franchise the concept and made a gazillion dollars. He bought out the brothers in the early 1950s.

      Bob,
I think the first Ray Kroc McDonald’s was in Des Plaines, Illinois. I have a replica of it I bought in the McDonald’s store at Hamburger U’s hotel.

You’re right about the brothers having restaurants named after them in California where they opened their first, the rights of which Ray bought and made a gazillion dollars as you have so correctky noted!
