I also enjoy the more schmalzy, Sammy Davis Jr. version. When I think of Bill Robinson I think of Sammy.

Bob,
I’d forgotten all about his version. It was pretty good!

I like David Bromberg’s version where he tells the story of how Jerry Jeff wrote the song.

I’ve been looking for this one. It gets stuck in here every once in a while and usually a good listen will not only chase it off, but helps me recall what the real words are. I’ve been mistaken a few times and believe it or not, housekeeper lets me know I’m wrong. Then we argue about it, but now I have the absolute proof!
Thanks, Kat

Carl,
You aee very welcome. Your housekeeper has a good ear! I always get a chuckle when I hear people singing the words they thought they heard in a particular song. My sister, when she was little, used to sing “Later on we’ll perspire as we dream by the fire,” from Winter Wonderland. It made perfect sense to her as the fire makes you so warm.
