“Today a new sun rises for me; everything lives, everything is animated, everything seems to speak to me of my passion, everything invites me to cherish it”

Today is one of those days which comes around every now and then. It’s gently raining, a cool breeze is blowing, and I can hear the swish of the leaves as the branches wave back and forth. The birds are singing right beside my window. The animals are so deeply sleeping I can hear their breathing. My coffee was perfectly brewed. During my shower I noticed I had lost an earring during the night. I went looking but couldn’t find it. My guess is it fell under the bed, and I’ll need a flashlight to see it. I did find the back which I usually never find. I was a bit put out as I like the earrings, but I let it go and went looking for another pair in my bureau drawer in boxes where I hardly look. It took me the longest time to go through the boxes as many of the earring had memories attached, and I just sat and let the memories wash over me. There was a pair of golden cable cars my dad had brought back from San Francisco. In one box was a Christmas gift card signed by Santa, something my mother always did. Each Christmas she gave the three of us new earrings, and that year I had tucked away the card. The antique cameo earrings my mother also gave me one Christmas were there. I remember how pleased she was that I loved them so much. I went through everything in that drawer. It took me about forty minutes. The time was so well worth the memories.

I came downstairs. The house was dark the way I like it on rainy days when it feels as it the house is keeping me close and warm. I set the coffee brewing and went to get the papers. It was raining just a bit. When I came in, I got a cup of coffee, turned on the light in the den and read the papers. I did both crossword puzzles and the cryptogram. They seemed easy today. Playing in the background was my Joni Mitchell Pandora station, and all the songs were exactly right.

I am staying home today because I can’t think of a better place to be. Today is perfect.

  1. Lovely post. If we were on Facebook, I’d like it. ; )

We’re not, so I’ll just say … lovely.

I stayed at home today too. I woke up with a bad stomach and later on I got a fever. But I do feel better now so I´ll try to eat something later on. It has rained something hysterical here today and it was even worse in my old home town, streets and cellars were filled with water and the local radio station broke down 🙂 🙂

I found my old stamp collections the other day and lots of old memories came back to me as well. I remember how friends and family always brought me lots of stamps from their journeys and how they asked friends of theirs to give me all stamps they got or already had 🙂 It is funny but I can actually remember from whom almost every stamp came from 🙂 🙂

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

      Christer,
It was the same here-it poured almost the whole day. Gracie didn’t ever go out until 4:30, several hours after her only other time. I’m sorry you’re not feeling so hot, but I’m happy you feel well enough to eat.

It is always amazing to me how things can hold on to us so much by the memories we attach to them. I know exactly what you mean with your stamps.

    Hi Kat,
I go through my earring drawer and the same thing happens. Memories of why I have each pair come back to me. It’s fun.

It’s raining a bit harder here and the breeze is not so gentle but still rather pleasant. The dog is sleeping beside me on the couch and has no desire to go play in the wet. I have been out for coffee. I’ve cycled between reading a novel and knitting on a lace shawl. When one gets tiresome, I do the other. It’s that kind of day.

    Enjoy the rest of yours.

      Hi Caryn,
I never thought how involved I’d get looking for a pair of earrings, which i actually found somewhere other than the drawer.

It poured-loud heavy rain fell most of the day. Gracie barely moved all day except to come up stairs with me and continue her nap on the bed.

I read for a while but did little for most of the rest of the day-I’m content!

What a lovely post. I know days like that. Last night I went to see Buffy Saint Marie, and she gave one hell of a concert. I had seen her before in my teens and well, just, wow. When I’m in the mood I go through old boxes of letters, or pictures or whatever catches my eye. That’s one reason it’s hard for me to organize. I am not really awake yet, Jewels is sleeping by the edge of our bed, and later I will go swimming.
On Facebook a few days ago someone put two old films ( I don’t know how that is done) of my first cousin and my uncle before he died. Also put my cousins’s birthday party when she was ten, and now she is giving a party for her daughter. The Circle Game keeps running thru my mind. These had to be 40 years old. What memories!
Time to rest again. I hope this post made some sense.

      Thanks, Lori
Your post made perfect sense. That’s why I love that song so much.

I figure if you have everything in a box or folder, it’s organized. You’re talking about cleaning out, and that is never easy to do with the memories of a lifetime.

Really good post today Kat. I remember my sisters getting excited about ear rings for birthdays or Christmas. I think it really got going when pierced ear rings were in style. Today I notice young men with rings in their nose and out the side of their lips. I have to contain myself as they look like characatures. I wait for them to explode or elevate their bodies over tall buildings. Funny!

      Thanks, Z&Me,
I got my ears pierced when I was in the 8th grade, never told my mother I was going to do it. A neighbor froze my ear with ice cubes and stuck a large needle through the lobe. The needle was threaded with dental floss. I used to alcohol the floss a few times a day and pull it through my ear which helped it healed. My mother just gave in when she found out.

From Jimmie Fallon: It’s been a tough year for the N.Y. Yankees. They lost all four series against the Boston Red Sox. So today S&P downgraded the Yankees to the Mets.

    Cheers

      Christer,
I never noticed it until you posted this comment, but that’s because I go right to the comments to answer and don’t notice the bottom of the posting.

You also get to share-didn’t notice that either, but I did set this up for Facebook postings.
