“With mirth and laughter let old wrinkles come.”

The weather continues to be perfectly lovely. I can’t think of a better descriptor for a sunny day of 73°, but when I use the word lovely, I always feel as if I’m a character in a British novel of manners.

Last night, had the Red Sox won, the evening would have been a perfect. It was baseball weather, the stands were filled, I had my sausage sandwich with onions and peppers and I got to walk on the Fenway field carrying the Ghanaian flag. We, returned Peace Corps volunteers, were part of the  pre-game ceremony honoring fifty years of Peace Corps. We walked onto the field in single file carrying flags from Peace Corps countries and stood ringed around the field from the scoreboard to the bullpen while a clip about President Kennedy played on the jumbotron, the anthem was sung, the first ball was tossed and play ball was shouted. We walked off the field in single file still waving our flags. All of us who attended the game sat in a block in the bleachers wearing red t-shirts with the Peace Corps logo on the back and, “Life is calling. How far will will you go?” written on the front. We were easy to spot.

Today I am attending a birthday luncheon for a woman turning 90. If you met her, you couldn’t correctly guess her age. She is one of those eternally young people. Her sense of humor is wry, she misses nothing and her exuberance for life makes me smile. Louise loves jokingly harassing people. I am often her target, and I return her harassment with a good comeback, and off we go, back and forth. Louise is a big Red Sox fan, and we often talk about the last game we watched, and we bemoan every loss and shake our heads when discussing the likes of John Lackey. I hope to be as bright and funny as Louise if I turn 90. Come to think of it, even next year I’d hope to be as bright and funny as Louise. I guess I’m going to have to start remembering why I’m in the kitchen.

It has been raining most of the day over here but I don´t mind. I had to go to the vet with Nova once again and sat there for an hour or so.

It must have been so fun to walk around with the Ghanian flag, I wish I could have seen You there!

I do hope I don´t live in a fog when and if I get to that age. But I don´t have to be funny though, nasty is quite fun to be too 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

      Christer,
It stayed lovely all day long. The restaurant where the party was had the most glorious view of the ocean. It looked so beautiful.

I have some pictures I’ll try to get to this weekend.

      I hope I don’t either, but the cloud has a sliver lining-we won’t know we’re living in a fog!

You had a good time regardless of the Sox loss. I would have loved to see the Peace Corps presentation and checked our listings here which are scambled from the TV Guide. We never know who has the black out but we get more Ray’s games than the Nats who I follow. But now it’s time for football and again I don’t recognize the name Beck as our quarterback. Washington is such a mess in every respect. Glad you had a good time and I envy that sausage sandwich. They only taste good at baseball games.

      Z&Me,
      I had a great time.

They never show the pre-game festivities on TV but we were told it was being filmed and would be put on youtube so I’ll keep looking.

From the jumbotron, it looked great.

Here in Texas we are marching toward the all time record of 100 degree plus days. Today is day 34 and it’s 107 at 5:30 PM. The low temperatures for the day have been around 86 degrees. Going to Arlington to watch the Rangers is painful. In the seventh inning it’s still around 100 degrees.

We will be sure to keep the heat on when the Red Sox come to Arlington on August 22nd.

The Peace Corps was one of this country’s brightest moments. Young people like yourself dispelled the image of the ugly American abroad. It’s a shame that so many of our young people who graduated this June and are jobless have no place to go and could volunteer to help others until the job market improves. The Tea Party Republicans in the House don’t want to hear about spending a dime of the taxpayer’s money to help anyone except big business.

      Bob,
I am so sorry that you continue to be subjected to such horribly hot weather.I’ve seen those games on TV when the Sox play there and Don and Jerry, the two Sox announcers, always talk about how hot it is and often why why there was no dome.

The heat on-good one both literally and figuratively!

Every year the Peace Corps asks for more money and every year they don’t get it. There are countries asking for volunteers, but there isn’t enough money to send, train and sustain them in-country. I always think the US gets the best bang for its buck from PC volunteers who get right down with their host country people.

Remembering why you are in the kitchen is a very good beginning– for both of us! You are one of brightest and funniest people I know, Kat.
I am wondering if every cloud has a silver lining….

      Lori,
I think sticky notes are the cure for not remembering. We’d just have a whole pile of them sticking to our shirts, and we could pull them off to remind us.

Thank you for the kind words!
