“This morning’s scene is good and fine, Long rain has not harmed the land.”
A trip to Boston has put me way behind my time and then the drive home was slow because it rained almost the whole trip. Even now it’s raining enough to keep Gracie from venturing outside.
The alarm was an unwelcome intrusion when it went off this morning at 7. I cursed my fate but got up knowing I needed a cup of coffee before I left. The trip wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I brought a pillow for my back and got home with nary an ache. In two weeks, I have the marathon to work so I know I’ll be fine after I did so well today.
The house is chilly with the dampness the rain has brought. My hands are cold, and I feel the need for a nap under warm covers. When I finish here, Gracie and I will get cozy.
When I was a little kid, we walked to school in all weather. When it rained liked today, we’d run as far as we could hoping to stay as dry as possible, but I still remember the smell of wet wool from our uniform skirts and winter coats. The drips from those coats would soak the cloakroom floor. No recess on a rainy day made us cranky.
I used to get home, change into my play clothes or even my pajamas and lie in bed and read. I needed to feel warm after the walk home through the rain. I loved lying in bed with a favorite book while listening to the rain hit the window panes. Sometimes the rain was so heavy, I couldn’t see outside because of the drops. The lights were always on in the kitchen and the living room. I’d go downstairs in time for Superman and The Mickey Mouse Club. My mother would fix dinner while we watched TV. My Dad usually came home too late to eat with us, but my mother would keep his plate warm. We’d do our homework and then watch some TV before heading up to bed. I was always tired on a rainy night. I swear it was all that running to stay dry.

It has been warm and sunny here today but that´ll change already tomorrow.
I´ve always loved rainy days if they didn´t come to often of course 🙂 When I was young we never had any programs on tv during daytime like we have today, so I used to read a lot like You did. The best rainy days was when we were at our summer cottage or when I was with my friends family at their summer house.
If I was at my friends cottage we usually played cards, Canasta of course 🙂 Every now and again we had tea and something to eat like a small sandwich or a bun 🙂
Sometimes we went out fishing because everyone knows one gets more fish in rain. To be honest, I think that is a viscous lie 🙂 🙂 :-)I can´t remember us ever getting any fish ever 🙂 🙂 🙂
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Christer,
It was rain for most of the late morning and early afternoon. I was cold in the house and put on a sweat shirt.
Summer rains were the best It didn’t matter if we got wet; the rain was warm and cooling. We’d then run along the sides of the street where the water was rushing to the sewer. We’d kick and splash the rain at each other-it was great fun.

The warmest I ever felt was coming home soaking wet and changing into flannel lined jeans and a warm dry sweater.

Caryn,
I totally understand. I’m wearing flannel pants now and a sweatshirt. I was warm and cozy all afternoon.

I still love rainy days only not to go out in it anymore. But I love the sounds of a real storm with lightening and strong winds. Sometimes I sit in the garage when it rains and enjoy the fresh odors as it blows through the pine trees. Yes, we have Palm trees mostly but where I am you see many an Australian Pine brought up from a wild investor selling the county on these strong pines would block damage from Hurricanes and other strong winds. That was way back when we were known for selling swamp land.

I will always love rainy days and thunder and lightening.
The summer rains leave that wonderful odor too. I can smell the heat off the streets as the rain cools them and the richness of the dirt in the gardens.
When it rains only a little in the summer, I sit under the umbrella outside and read and stop a lot to listen.

Minicapt,
This has always been one of my rain favorites-it’s the thunder at the start I think.
I love the blowing trees in this video.
