“What he had not learned, however, was this: to find contentment in himself and his own life”
All my optimism of yesterday is buried under a couple of inches of snow. I also noticed the bird feeders are empty again so I’ll trudge through the snow on the deck to fill them after I finish here. The snow showers have started again. First there were a few wispy flakes, but now the flakes are larger and falling faster as if they have illusions of grandeur. I don’t want to go anywhere. I figure I’ll shower, put on my cozies and read. I’m thinking an afghan on the couch.
I’m typing and reading out loud as I type. It is my way of hearing the words and proof reading as I go along. Gracie, asleep on the chair, sighs loudly every now and then. I figure she is dreaming of the day she can lie on the grass in the backyard and be warmed by the sun. The cats are upstairs under the bed near the heater. None of us seem to have much energy. Some days are like that.
I just can’t seem to pull my eyes away from the window. Begrudgingly I have to admit the falling snow is pretty. It is not supposed to amount to much, but this is March and this is Cape Cod and when it comes to spring weather, there are no guarantees.
The day is dark, and the light in here is on. In the living room, small electric candles are lit, and in the basket by the fireplace the gourd lights shine through and there are shadows on the wall. The snow is heavier now than earlier. When I started writing, I was feeling a bit bored and a little lonely. Now, I feel a sort of contentment: happy to be home, happy to be warm and looking forward to being lost in a book. Some days just surprise me.

Hi Kat,
It is an interesting weather day here. The 2 to 4 inches of snow that was supposed to show up overnight amounted to a dusting that melted away in the morning sun. Now the sun is fitfully peeking through clouds and brief snow showers come through. Rocky and I were sunning ourselves out on the front steps while the snow swirled lightly around us. He was lying in the grass and I was on the step. It was warm. And snowing.
The temperature has dropped and we are inside now, Rocky sleeping on the couch and me contemplating paint that is not going to apply itself to the walls without my assistance. Yuck. I’d rather sun myself in the snow. 🙂
Have a lovely day in your warm book and afghan.

Hi Caryn,
We got the 2 inches of snow but it disappeared quickly though the snow showers stayed around most of the afternoon with a lot of blustering and not much else.
There was no sun at all today, just clouds amnd more clouds.
It was a wonderful day!

Wonderful weather here today but now it will get colder they say, no snow though. But then again, the weather forecasts has been rather lousy for a long time now 🙂
It happens that I read out loud when I´m writing in english but I don´t think I´ve ever done it when writing in swedish.
It´s getting dark here now and all animals are upstairs sleeping, Orvar by the stairs and the rest in my bed 🙂 It´s very quiet here now and I love it 🙂
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Christer,
I saw your pictures of a couple of days ago and it looked warmer there than it is here. The dogs looked great, even feisty Nova.
I need to hear how the words sound when I proofread.
It’s getting late, and I’m getting tired. Have a great day tomorrow.

We can’t complain about the weather and were happy to have the two grand children over now 11 and 5 and disappointed that the State ruled no more helicopter rides at the Space Museum. Of course we promised them and it was a wasted trip over to the Cape. So we had a big lunch at Gorky’s and took them swimming in the pool at my daughters complex. I’m grilling hot dogs for dinner. Both the kids are on Spring Break and this means a spring type of break for Mom and Dad too. We have them for the weekend.

Z&Me,
I bet they are having the best time with their grandparents. We never really did that as my set wasn’t kindly and the other set had a daughter, my aunt, younger than me and an uncle 2 years older. I preferred home and the fun in my town during vacations.
I would have loved to travel with my family, but it was usually too expensive for all of us. My dad, though, could grill a mean hot dog.

This has not been a very kind winter and the first days of spring are offering those in the Northern states no relief. These are good days to catch up on books that you forgot to read or to watch movies that you missed in the theater. Glad to hear that you must be feeling better.

Bob,
You have just described my days-books and movies. I took my shower and put on clean cozies and my slippers. It was the most comfortable day.

Last time, the afghan was on the bed.
Cheers

Minicapt,
The afghan is now on the couch! The dog has one on the floor. I fold it and put it up and she pulls it down. I got a second one for me as she tended to take the first one.

splendid,
I am doing my best to get better though I admit a setback or two die to my over exuberance.
It will be in the 40’s during the day and low 30’s at night. I want a warm day which is so sunny I am blinded by the sun.
I am going through seed catalogs!

K sez: “Now, I feel a sort of contentment: happy to be home, happy to be warm and looking forward to being lost in a book.”
Hmmm. At least you are not groggy, startled and being thrown out to (or under) a bus from a hospital door today! Hope you are not forgetting to report up the chain of command to discuss your less than stellar treatment and exact some form of apology, etc., from the powers that be in that bureaucracy (as well as evidence that things have NOW changed).

Rick,
I have to go for a post op appointment to my surgeon then I will start banging on doors about my treatment! They’ll probably throw me out yet again!
