Happy St. Patrick’s Day
Unlike the rumors, I am not dead nor have I been held in a white slavery ring some where in the middle east. I am home and have been for almost a week. This surgery was like nothing compared to the last though I now have a total of eight screws. I avoid magnets though I find myself strangely attracted to them. My sister is still here spoiling the heck out of me. She hears my feet on the floor and gets the coffee brewing. We watch movies, play a few games and sit on the deck so I can get some air. Stories-oh do I have stories, less of the surgery than its aftermath, but I am waiting until Sheila leaves on Saturday to start Coffee every day, but I wanted to take the chance to thank all of you for the well wishes, the humor and the suggestions, but I really don’t think my body can be contorted into those strange positions some of you have suggested.
Hang in there-I really am coming back!! Thank you all, my dear friends!!

Happy St Patrick’s day back at you. Glad to hear that you are still looking at the shamrocks from the right side and that you’ll be back on your normal schedule as soon as you can. We missed you.

Happy St. Pat’s Day to you too, Caryn,
I missed all of you every day. I began to feel a bit guilty being away so long, and my brain kept starting new musings then I’d forget and begin again. I wish I had written some of them down! I’ll be back this weekend for good!!

It’s wonderful to hear that you’re among the living!
I look forward to “seeing” you online again every day!

Thanks, Larry
I am feeling better only 10 days after this surgery than I ever did after the other.

Happy St Patrick’s Day Kat; Welcome Home; try to stay sober. I knew where you were all week. Figured you walked off with one of those hospital gowns and the hospital security is still looking for you and your sister. Hope this doesn’t blow your cover but it will be a pleasant surprise to “read all about it” when you return to writing the blog next week. Just Keep the Coffee Comin!

Z&Me,
I did go out on St. Pat’s day and didn’t take any pain pills so I managed a couple of drinks along with my shepherd’s pie.
Coffee is rarin’ to go!!

Glad to hear that you are among the living. Once in March several years ago on the Tonight Show, Johnny Carson said to Ed McMahon, “What are you going to do now that the Pope has de-sainted St. Patrick?” Ed replied, “We will just have to have a Mr. Patrick Day party.”
I will think of you as I drink Guinness Stout with my Corned Beef and Cabbage on this Mr. Patrick Day. And I am not Irish except on Mr. Patrick Day.

Bob,
On this day, everyone is Irish! I love that story: Mr. St. Patrick Day!

Cheers

Ok, admit it. You’ve been milking this for every last drop, haven’t you? Loving the drama your delayed reappearance created. And now teasing us with a hint of stories to come just like those old Saturday morning serials at the local movie palace. Welcome back. You’ve been missed!
March 19, 2011 at 12:39 am
im6,
Okay, milking it just a bit! My sister has been waiting on me hand and foot. Starting tomorrow I am on my own.

S,
I was really not okay for the computer until the middle of this week. The staples made sitting on a chair painful, and I was sleeping a lot not to much napping but until 11 or 12 or later every day. Right now I feel as good as I have since before the first surgery.

March 19, 2011 at 12:46 am
Cuidado,
I passed along the thanks to my sister. She has been amazing, and it is she who really helped me recovery so quickly.
March 18, 2011 at 9:09 am
Welcome home dear kat! i must say i was not worried a bit about you, having been born in the bloodline of a German grandfather and a nurse mother….

I’m glad to hear you are doing well. This strange internet community has changed our culture. I read one blog written by a woman with cancer and she has graciously taken us along with her on her journey. But the cancer has spread and she has advanced to writing only sparsely and my big fear is that one day she will simply disappear and we will never know any more of her. She has promised a follow up blog from a friend when she is gone. I know you are not that sick but I tell you this so you will know how important you are to your regular readers. Keep us posted.I love reading you! I live in Texas and your daily weather report is always fun to read. (go figure.)
March 19, 2011 at 12:48 am
Jane,
I gave thought to what could happen and did write an entry and how to post it for my sister to use. The last thing I wanted was just to disappear from all of you.
I had asked her to give updates, but she only did the one. I tried from the hospital but couldn’t get my iPad to go on line.
I have an expectation of being around a long time!
March 18, 2011 at 11:12 am
Glad you’re back and hope the recovery zooms forward.
March 19, 2011 at 12:49 am
Thanks, Bob
It seems to be doing just that!
March 18, 2011 at 12:40 pm
Kat:
Glad to hear the Coffee Lady (how my wife refers to you)is back. Sending my Irish coffee recipe to aid in your recovery:
1 generous shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey (no other brand will do)
1 generous tsp. of brown sugar
Strong coffee, e.g.,Tanzania or Sumatra
1 very generous dollop of fresh whipped cream on top (NEVER use the aerosol can type because it doesn’t hold up)
Sip the coffee through the whipped cream, hum your favorite Irish music, and enjoy!
March 19, 2011 at 12:50 am
Bill,
This Coffee Lady loves your recipe and I have copied it and added to my files. It was always be Bill’s Irish Coffee!!

Welcome back! Second operation no surprise to me – anybody who listens to Iris DeMent has “a few screws loose”! Ooooo…. bad. Happy St. Pat’s!!
March 19, 2011 at 12:51 am
Jaybird,
I guessed my surgeon was a golfer who was asking for a redo!
There are so many screws now I am no long a loose screw but rather quite screwy!
March 18, 2011 at 10:41 pm
Despite the horrible upheavals of late, at least the world is back to normal on the Cape.
