    In this form, at least, it’s datable to post-1876, for the tune is identical to Braham & Harrigan’s “Are You There, Moriarity?” which was first sung in the music halls in that year. (No one has ever, that I know of, ever disputed that David Braham wrote the tune.)

      I hadn’t ever heard the music before under any name. I guessed it was old, but I didn’t know how old.
