“Surely as cometh the Winter, I know There are Spring violets under the snow.”

Good news about my iPad and Mac. Both now intimately know my router thanks to a comment by Mikelj3. He said, “Most users forget to unplug the router, shut down the computer and within 10-20 seconds plug the router back in & start the computer. They have to shake hands with each other & this usually fixes the problem. I cannot believe that any of the people you called didn’t ask you to try this. It usually works.” It did, and I’m so excited!!!!

The sun is shining even though it’s freezing out. From my perch here in the den the world looks deceptively bright and beautiful so I couldn’t believe how cold it was when I went to get the papers. I wish I could stay home and play with my new toys, but Miss Gracie and I have two errands a bit later. She’ll wear her lovely Pendleton coat and totally outclass me.

Winter turns me into a sloth. Staying in the warmth of my house reading a good book is one of the best ways I know to spend a winter’s day. Getting cozy under covers to take a nap helps while away a dreary winter afternoon. I know winter is cold, bleak and sometimes snowy, and I’m okay with that. I live in New England where winters aren’t supposed to be warm, but around this time every year, I miss color the most, even more than I miss the warmth of the sun.

The trees are bare; there are no flowers in the gardens, and the snow, which can be beautiful, is just plain white. I do what I can to blunt the dreariness. In my front windows I keep candles lit all year long. They chase away a bit of winter’s darkness. When I shop, I often buy flowers. They bring color and they bring hope. They remind me that spring, as always, will naturally follow winter. I just have to wait, be patient and keep warm.

Grey and dull over here today, but the temperature has stayed over 35F so I don´t complain 🙂

I had to go home early today so I could see that everything worked ok with the new little lady in the dog yard. It showed I had nothing to worry about, she had been in the dog house all day and the boys in the yard 🙂 Now I only have to learn her how to walk when having a leash on 🙂 🙂

It´s strange that these computer geniuses never thinks of the obvious 🙂 🙂 I´m glad everything works now. About what I wrote about the Iphone yesterday, an extended warranty doesn´t help if one is outside with the phone if the temperatures is below 32F. But I would love to have a Mac computer though, but they were a bit to expensive this time (but I use Safari as my browser 🙂 ).

    Have a great day now!
    Christer.

      Christer,
It stayed sunny and really cold all day. Gracie hated going out before bed as it was a might too cold for her.

I played with my iPod all last night-really fun. I’ll be looking for apps later.

I stopped at Aldi’s today for a few fruits and veggies before Stormzilla hits and bought “Dear Sweetie” a bunch of flowers. I can always use the extra points. After a marriage of 38 years I learned that well.

I’m dying for Spring. It cannot come soon enough. Dirt in flowerpots is like nicotine gum for a chain smoker. Sure. It’s the same stuff – but it’s not. I need to turn some soil and smell the compost. But, it will be quite some time before I even see the dirt of the garden. Another storm is on it’s way. Another. Our weather’s been pretty tame when compared to the East Coast, but this may be Old Man Winter’s catch-up. We could very well have 2 feet of snow added to our ground before the week is over. Yes, it may be quite some time….

Although in actuality it is the shortest month of the calendar year, February is the longest. It drags on and on, and then drags on even more, with no hint of Spring. The Sun goes on it’s winter vacation and a grey pallor covers Northern Illinois, and mutes any hope for the new year. I hate February. And it hates me. My only relief from the dreary days is the annual Garden Expo in Madison WI over the Valentine’s Day weekend. There we’ll smell that compost, see fields of flowers, albeit potted and displayed to only replicate real gardens. But, any smell of worms and pollen helps. A few new tools, a workshop or two, some exotic seed packs and bulbs in our shopping basket, and we just may survive ’til St. Patrick’s Day. St. Valentine gives us Hope, and St. Patrick gives us Spring.

      John,
I used to like February because of the vacation. 5 whole days to go where I wanted. One year it was Rome where it wasn’t cold though it did get chilly at night. The weather was perfect for walking.

In anticipation of today’s snow, I did a bit of shopping. I also bought flowers in yellows and pinks and reds. They brighten the whole kitchen. I also bought goodies to help me weather the storm.

The cape has been luckier than Boston this year. A few huge storms bypassed us, and we got rain instead. My sister has so much snow it’s dangerous trying to get out of a street to another. Where they’ll put up to two feet more no one seems to know.

I hate March and sometimes April. March here is damp and chilly. Often times the wind gets right to the bone. That’s when I feel the ocean the most, even though it isn’t all that close to me. April is often the same as March though once in a while we have a warm April and all of us are surprised. That the place in time I’d like to be.

The big storm has hit the DFW area this morning dropping a couple of inches of sleet all over the place. We are supposed to get snow on top of the sleet later today. Sunday’s high temperature was a balmy 68 degrees, yesterday it was in the 50s and this morning it was 20 degrees. I guess the Green Bay Packers brought this winter weather with them when they arrived here yesterday for Sunday’s Super Bowl. In Texas spring comes for a little while in January or February to tease us and then escapes until March. Then spring brings its own fun in the form of violent squall lines of imbedded thunderstorms hiding monster tornados.

      Bob,
The big storm turned out to be mostly rain here on the cape. In the first round, Boston got all snow, but today they too are getting rain. It is disgusting outside. When I went to get my paper, there was no place to walk which wasn’t slush or huge puddles of water. My stone walk is filled with water. It has no place to go with the ground frozen. I don’t know what we’ll do if all of this freezes.
