My mom used to sing this as a lullaby to me as a child. I have just discovered Nanci Griffith’s version. What a sweet song!

      Lori and Jewels,
It was this album which I heard first and then I became a Nanci fan.

I’m hoping to be able to drive by the weekend! Progress is slow but it is progress!!!

  4. Hi, my mother wrote this song when I was in college. Belafonte and Greene added the chorus (which it needed) and changed the first verse to be about a girl instead of a boy. I love the idea of a mother and daughter dancing to it at the daughter’s wedding.
