Funny Photo Caption:
And the families that work at ENRON find life changes fast.

Good one, Morpfy!

OK, I give up. What’s the story behind that photo? (It is a real photo, yes?) I can’t imagine what would prompt dozens of families to move on the same day. It appears to be a typical 1950s-early 1960s subdivision (Los Angeles?). I suppose it could be military-family housing somewhere, in which case I could make up a reasonable back story.

Fred,
This is from Life Magazine. Here is the description provided,
LOS ANGELES DEVELOPMENT BOOM December 1952
Expansive view of newly-built houses jammed side-by-side, divided by a never-ending street clogged w. moving vans incl. Pan American Van & Storage, Bekins Van & Storage & McCallson Van & Storage, unloading families’ possessions on moving day in this housing development

I met Mr. Bekins and his daughter years ago. I didn’t know at the time that he owned a gigantic US business.

Cuidado,
If I had to name a moving company, I would think of Bekins first as I often see the company’s trucks.

A really astounding photo. These days, the boat in front of the house on the left side would probably be enjoined from any parking time at all in front of a house. Folks are getting really persnickety about extra vehicles/parking spaces, IMHO.
Of course, I currently live in a small town. And almost anything goes here in deep south Texas.

Rick,
The main district district in my town is about a mile away, and the owners can’t make any changes to their houses with an approval from the historical commission. I live in a secondary district which has fewer restrictions but we still need approval. Most of us don’t even bother. We just do what we want anyway. Our neighbor tried to get a permit for a deck. He was denied. We all decks and none of us had permits.

Oops. I mean RIGHT side. My fingers didn’t dangle quite right to type that in correctly.

My oops is the last sentence-we all have decks

Marchbanks,
That would be the perfect song for this picture.
