Nostalgia
Today all of the songs are from 1965, the year I graduated from high school. I remember all of the words to each song. Music is like that.

In 1965, at the age of 18, I passed three Advanced Level General Certificate of Education exams, thereby qualifying for entry to a university degree course. Not really knowing what I wanted to do, I took a year off from full-time education. I remember the music very well. There is a radio station here in the UK that plays only 1960s music, and I am an avid listener.

Peter,
I listened to the radio all the time. We all did. I remember AM playing in the car, and we sang along. I became a freshman in college in September of 1965. The only thing I wanted to do was 4 years away. I wanted to go into the Peace Corps. I majored in English.

During my “year off,” I worked in a variety of manual work roles, including night shifts at a large bakery and road maintenance with a local council. I then went to study geology at university. After a very short time on that course, I switched to Economics and Social Studies. I graduated with a BA (Econ) degree in 1969.

Peter,
You graduated the same year I did, and I didn’t have a year in between.
I did work summers, but always in the same place, the post office. I was a mail sorter.
In June of 1969, I left for Ghana.
