When we were kids, this song and the movie, “Lady and the Tramp”, enabled my sister and I to convince our parents to get us a black cocker spaniel. Unfortunately, we couldn’t keep the dog. My mother made us give it up, because we lived in an apartment and she claimed it was too much work for her.
After that, if we asked my father for a pet, he would reply, “Why would I want a pet, I have you two kids?” I always suspected that my father liked sex more than he liked children.
I can’t imagine growing up without a dog. We got our first one when I was five. He died when I was in high school. We also had cats at the same time. My parents had dogs for so many years, but when they were old, they only had cats. All of my siblings have pets as do their kids.
