Perhaps my only claim to fame is that Pet Clark and I were both born in Epsom. I usually say it was at the District Hospital which certainly was true for me but I cannot be 100% sure for Petula

Back in the day Epsom was the home to a cluster of psychiatric hospitals which back then were unfortunately referred to as mental hospitals. The Clarks worked at Long Grove as did the parents of a very close friend of mine in the 1970s.

It is lovely to celebrate Petula’s 92 birthday and know that her career has exceeded 80 years as she first emerged as a child star during the War.

Aside from the geographic connection I have a massive soft spot for her. The Tony Hatch years with Downtown and Subway stand out

Right now to listen to the lovely posts on KTCC

      My Dear Hedley,
I think you are being modest. You have so many claims to fame.

I thought Epsom was only known for its racetrack. Little did I know its significance in the lives of Hedley and Petula. I will treat it with more respect now!

I went and read her biography which is how I learned she had been a child star during the war.

I thank you for reminding me!
