”I am just a girl chasing her dreams and having an amazing adventure.”
Today is so lovely it just about defines fall on Cape Cod. It’s 65° and sunny. I went on the deck to fill the birds’ favorite feeder and sat a while. The dogs romped in the yard. The nuthatches, even more than the chickadees, flew in and out then perched on branches to dine.
My house is so filled with spiders’ webs it could be the setting for a black and white 50’s science fiction movie. The spiders are all babies, spiderlings. They link everything together with tiny webs. I carry a duster for the high webs and find my stocking feet work well in clearing the lower webs.
When I was a kid, I was never afraid of spiders. I remember some girls would scream and run as if a horde of giant spiders was chasing them, chasing their entrees. I might have had a spider bite, but it’s hard to know. The bites are tiny and red and don’t even hurt. The bigger webs are beautiful, like doilies crocheted into intricate patterns. My favorite web was at the end of the movie The Fly. The main character with his human head and fly body was stuck in a web and crying, “Help me. Help me,” because a spider was advancing with dinner on its mind. Two men, who knew what had happened, were watching. One grabbed a rock and killed the spider and the fly.
When I was a kid, I was exasperating. You probably will find this difficult to believe, but I had an answer for everything. My parents were not amused.
I have favorite places. Home is always at the top of the list. It is where I find comfort and warmth, where I can wear my cozy clothes and where I can sometimes eat out of the pan. Ghana is next. It is my other home. Other countries, Portugal and Ecuador, are also on the list. I have done amazing things I dreamed of doing when I was eleven, when I first promised myself I’d see the world. I stood in two hemispheres at the equator. I have ridden a camel in the Sahara. I have bargained in markets where I probably paid too much but still thought I was wonderful at haggling. I have ridden in a balloon, a helicopter, a glider and in wonderful old prop planes. I don’t know what will come. I just know I’ll find it wonderful and exciting. I always do.

Hi Kat,
Today the sky is clear and the high is only 91°. Slowly the high temperatures are dropping along with low temperature in the mornings.
I consider any place I live a temporary dwelling. When we moved in 2020, during Covid-19, I needed more room because my two children were living with us. Now we don’t need a two story house because the stairs are becoming a detriment. Who knows what adventures will come next. The one reason we are still here is it’s three miles from my work.
Because of the pandemic, my traveling days are probably over. During the lockdown the company decided that remote training via computer was far cheaper than travel. In business, cheap always trumps good.
I did get to see some interesting places such as Hong Kong, Zhuhai China, London, Brussels, and Dubai. The UAE, Dubai is the strangest place I have ever been. It’s a Muslim country, but all the large hotels have bars.
One evening a group of us from work walked a couple of blocks to eat dinner. Along the way we passed the Moscow Hotel. They had an outdoor bar. It was about five in the evening and all the patrons were tall blond woman. One of my colleagues told me that the Moscow Hotel and bar was a hooker hotel. The tall woman were all Russian hookers.
It was useful during the week because when we ventured further from our hotel for dinner, we took a taxicab. All of the cab drivers were from either Pakistan or Bangladesh. When going back to our hotel, the drivers didn’t know how to get to where we were staying. However, they all knew where the Moscow Hotel was located. 🙂

Hi Bob,
It always throws me a bit when you say only followed by temperatures in the 90’s. Only means cold, real cold here.
I knew when I bought this house it would be my first and only house. I was 29 when I bought it, and the mortgage was 1/2 my monthly salary at the time, but each year my salary went up and I could even afford to start traveling again. I have more than enough room for me, two dogs and a cat.
I have also spent time in Muslim countries and all of them served drinks. They knew it was a necessity for tourists when they visited. I have never been to the Middle East but so many countries are iffy so I’ll wait.
I did tell my story about saying at a brothel, but all of the women were African, except for me, of course.
That’s funny about taxi drivers and the Moscow Hotel.
