“If Saturday had a spirit animal, it would definitely be a sloth.”
The morning is perfect. It is 74° degrees, sunny and dry. The air is still. It is a day to be out and about or a day to loll on the deck with a book and a cold drink. Lemonade, a bit tart, would be perfect. I was awakened by the roar of the mower cutting the grass in my front yard. It was early for me, around 9, but I’m thinking not so early in the world of mowing.
When I was lying in bed, I could hear the plink of falling acorns hitting the metal bird seed storage barrel on the deck. Acorns are all over the deck. Nala chews them. In the spawn attacked deck box, the poor flowers have died. Well, one died and two disappeared. It is now empty. I’m going to have to buy a couple more.
When I was a kid, Saturday had rituals. We watched Saturday morning TV, still in our pajamas, with cereal bowls in hand while sitting close enough to the TV to cause blindness. Saturday was chore day. My father did his errands in the morning and worked in the yard in the afternoon, weather permitting. We had a New England Saturday night dinner though in the summer we often had a barbecue, also traditional. When we kids, it was hot dogs and hamburgers. When we were much older, it was spare ribs, steaks tips, Chinese sausage or chicken. My mother would make peppers and onions or potato salad. We were never a green salad family. Saturday night was bath night, a universal ritual.
My dance card is empty for the weekend. I’ll hunker down at home. I could vacuum or dust, but I won’t. I will water the inside plants. Rain is coming tomorrow so I don’t need to water outside. My hibiscus have started blooming. The front garden is still awash with color. Soon the clematis covering the front fence will bloom. The air will be abuzz with the sounds of the bees swarming the clematis. I’ll walk by gently.

Hi Kat,
This may be the last cool day. The high today is forecasted for only 92°. Later next week the triple digits will return. As long as the highs remain in the low one hundred’s it’s not too bad. Places like Las Vegas and Phoenix have had high temperatures as high as 115°.
Yes, when I was a kid I had the same rituals as you. You and I were the first TV generation. The producers realized early on that kids are the drivers of family spending on breakfast cereal, toys, and tennis shoes. I recall accompanying my mother to the super market and begging her for a certain sugary cereal just for prize inside. Somehow, the actual premium never looked or worked as advertised on the Saturday morning TV commercial. 🙂 Little did we realize that the Madison Avenue gurus were training all of us to become the greatest generation of consumers.

Hi Bob,
We had a wonderful day, and tonight is in the 60’s. Next week the humidity and heat will be back. I lived where 90° was considered cool so I know your heat. I survived, but I didn’t like it.
My favorite cereal prize was the submarine which traveled under water when you filled it with baking powder. They really worked. I once found them on line and put them in stockings. They were a hit.
We just didn’t like most sugary cereals. Frosted Flakes was the only one. I still like Frosted Flakes.

Watching the Redox hosting the Yankees. Boston is wearing their City Connect uniforms. Yellow jerseys and light blue caps. City Connect is stupid.

I also watched the game and I fell on my sword when the dreaded Yankees scored three.
Those city connect uniforms have a meaning as do all the city connect uniforms. These were first worn in 2021 on a Marathon Monday. The Sox play at 10:30 so as not to detract from the race. The blue and yellow are the colors of the Marathon. On the left arm is a facsimile of a racing bib with the number 617, the area code for Boston, for Fenway.

Thanks for the info. The Rangers city connect uniforms are worn on Friday night games. It’s a combination of the old Dallas Eagles and the Ft. Worth Cats from the old Texas league before the Rangers moved here. When the Rangers were in Chicago, the White Sox city connect uniforms say, “South Side”. When it comes to baseball, I’m a traditionalist.
