Kat you are watching a very early tape from Ready Steady Go (RSG, 5,4,3,2,1..the weekend starts here) broadcast from the ITV studios on Kingsway London early on a Friday night. This was actually broadcast on November 20th 1964. Also featured on that show were Marvin Gaye, Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames, Them (Van Morrison) and the Zephyrs.
The host is Keith Fordyce but by this time Cathy McGowan had caught the public’s imagination and hosted with Keith and sometimes Dusty
Most of the tapes were wiped but those that survived ended up in the hands of Dave Clark (he of the Dave Clark Five) and rarely see the light of day

How big was RSG ? Massive and more and more new bands broke and the kiddies demanded social change

      MDH,
I didn’t know the background of the program, but I knew the video was old which I prefer. That show had quite the lineup, so diverse in styles.

How did they end up with Dave Clark?

Sometimes I am amazed at these early videos. The changes and the growth in the sounds of the bands are striking. The song and the chords may be the same but not the sounds.

Nobody really knows how he ended up with the tapes, how many exist or where they are today ! Possibly he built up the story or myth he has them or even sold them on.
That Dave Clark and the Tottenham sound. I don’t think the DC5 ever appeared on RSG but he did release a video inserting the band in to the show !

Where did this video come from?

Inserting themselves in the video, I suppose if most of the videos are missing no one would catch on.
