I’d have to think long and hard as to when I’d turn back the clock.
Emily, a major character in Our Town, had died quite young in childbirth. A scene takes place in the cemetery where she and the other dead from the town are. They can converse. The stage manager, a major character in this play, tells her she can go back to any time in her life. She goes back to her twelfth birthday. It was so painful to see that Emily wished for it to end. At the end of the play Emily says, “Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it?”
