Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman) does say, “Play it, Sam. Play “As Time Goes By.” I saw the clip of it today. Rick later says, “You played it for her, you can play it for me! If she can stand it, I can! Play it!”

Casablanca is one of my favorite movies, maybe even my favorite. I saw it at an art theater on the big screen one time. I could see the crowd’s lips moving as they were whispering the lines.

You are quite welcome, but I admit this is a bit self-serving. It is also my favorite movie. I was lucky to see it one time on the big screen at a revival. The audience was mouthing the lines, total Casablanca fans!

I’ve seen is once, maybe twice on the big screen, and multiple times on VCR. Once was in Beverly, Mass, at the Cabot Cinema. You’re a little far south for that, but it was the place to go for classic and foreign films. Not only does Casablanca have a perfect amount of drama, romance, suspense, etc, also history, and some terrific one-liners, and the best version of La Marseillaise I’ve ever heard. And Ilsa is not hard to look at.

I saw it at the Cape Cinema, a wonderful venue. It has a Rockwell Kent painting on the ceiling and old seats with wooden arms. They used to have doilies. They didn’t have AC for a long while as the building is so old. It was the perfect place to see his.

I also showed it on my deck as I have a wonderful movie set up for it. Saturday night is movie night.

That scene where they sing the Marseillaise always gives me the chills.

I’ve read that for the crowd singing La Marseillaise they used French refugees, not actors, so it was pretty genuine.

I could feel how genuine it was.
